has anyone ever gotten a ticket for plastic reflectors over their license plate?

in AZ there is photo radar everywhere, and many people have the clear plastic reflectors over their license plate that obscures the license # for the cameras.

i heard you can get tickets for them, which is why i dont have one yet, but im beginning to think that part is BS

has anyone on here gotten a ticket for have reflective plates?

Myth Busters did a 2 whole shows covering all of those and not one of them even came close to working. Just for having them... technically you can, anything over the face of a plate is illegal, clear or not.

Yeah mythbusters busted it pretty hard. I had one in high school and got pulled over and got a ticket for having something over my plate. I dont think there is a state where its legal, but i could be wrong.

I've been running for years with smoked plate covers and never had a problem.

My friend had borrowed my car and was pulled over and told to remove the cover (just an excuse to pull him over). I did it anyway just to avoid being pulled over in the future.

No, Law is that nothing, Nothing at all can cover the plate. Even if your licence plate holder is covering your registration sticker. Bam ticket.

mud on the plates work fine and you will get off if you ever actually get a ticket. and it actually works to avoid tickets.

win win win

p.s. you may get pulled over more often though

heres a question others might know though. I rent vehicles quite often. I have never gotten a photo-radar ticket yet and i usually speed more in a rental. Do they just cancel them, does the agency get the ticket , or am i just lucky

this might come as a surprise to you however the rental agency knows who rented the car.

I actually was wondering this for a while, as I had driven through many toll booths without proper change (especially in Texas and Florida) in rentals cars when I traveled a lot for my regular job.

Only one time did the ticket work its way to me, but it worked its way good. I didn't have enough cash to pay for a bridge toll in Boston (if I remember correctly, it was something ridiculous like $20), and they told me they'd be sending me a ticket with payment instructions to the car registrant's address, and that I would have to pay $50 instead of the regular toll. About 4 months later, Thrifty (my rental car company of choice) sends me a multi-page letter explaining that my credit card on file has been charged a substantial fine ($100+) plus $8 in paperwork fees for non-payment of that toll.

So from my experience, small toll things are ignored/wavied, but anywhere where you pay a substantial toll (and thus there's a substantial fine), they'll eventually work their way to you. The interesting thing is Thrifty used my information to pay the fine for me, and told me about it later.

Its been years and the missed tolls I've had in Florida and Texas haven't touched me. (I hate how there's toll booths in Florida that require exact change and have no manned Cashier booths late at night, automatic screwage)

You just need to drive with no plates, then if you get pulled over you say they came off and you get a fixit ticket. Works for all tolls.

Recently on a trip from philly to Maryland I got pulled over for plastic bracket around the plate on my truck.

The state trooper is telling me how these are illegal in MD.

I spent 3 years doing weekly runs thru MD and never once stopped down there. The trooper also didnt care that I live in, truck is registered in and has plates on it for PA. He wanted that bracket off then and there ... until I explained to him nicely - I dont have a phillips head driver in the truck and am on the way to a business meeting in a suit and already slightly behind schedule.

He did let me slide and I did get a written warning .. no ticket for the bracket.

Took it off since the last thing I need is to get pulled over again while driving thru MD.
