The secret Millionaire

Is anyone else watching this show on Fox? If you aren't you should. First episode crushed me, watching second today. For those that are from the U.S. you can watch them on www.Hulu.Com If you ever want to feel humble, and appreciate what you have. Watch this show.

Its depressing, but inspiring at the same time. Basic story on it is this.

They have a very wealthy multi millionaire each week, (and so far a family member with them) go live on the equivalent of welfare and meet the people in the area they get sent. Under the guise of a documentary on poverty. So they meet all these people, and most of the time the poor people offer to help them out, and go around volunteering and finding people in need. They then at the end go and admit to the people that they met that they are not poor, and give away 100,000 or more to who they find that are really in need.

First episode with the blond lawyer and his son just crushed me. Got all teary eyed, and realized how many things I take for granted everyday.

I saw both episodes when they aired last Wednesday. The first was amazing. The second (with the husband and wife) was touching, but I felt let down at the same time. They still drove around in their Suburban, and aside from living in a rundown RV, they didn't really live the life like the father and son from episode 1 did.

Ya I didn't like that aspect of the second one, but the amount they ended up giving away made up for it. Just finished watching it. Still gave me that choked up feeling, but the first one I had that almost all the way through, second there were moments, and the end really got me. Im guessing they will save the guy worth 300 million for the last episode and he will give away over a million.

its airing here too i think the british version, only saw the promo's and it looks like another lame reality show, such an easy tear jerking show, i hate it. It's this concept that is cheap as fuck and gets wrapped around in different packages all the time:

- poor people
- give them cash
- film them crying

So much of these shows get made. Simple, cheap concept.

The first season or so of the UK version were enjoyable and interesting because the millionaires were actually having their eyes open to things. Plus, they had to live within the means of whatever pay they were getting at their new job. As it moved on, it felt more like the millionaires were doing it more for publicity (whereas the first couple seasons they didn't know the show would be popular), I stopped believing that the people being surprised had never seen the show to be so convinced by the cover stories about why there was a camera crew with the person and the show stopped following the millionaires having to live on their wages (presuming they stopped wanting to only eat beans on toast for a month).

Ya I can't see it going for another season, but a lot of people are getting help, and the show opens eyes. The times I've thought I am at rock bottom compared to some of the people on that show made me realize my rock bottom was their mountain top, they were a thousand feet below my rock bottom. And I konw there are people way worse off than those people on that show. Sad world.

mayeb you should learn how to read first...

the book is about people that you would never think are millionaires, but have high net worths.

it studies their habits, like how they but cheap suits, cheap watches, cheap cars, etc..

Warren Buffet is a classic example of the Billionaire Next Door..

I watched it the other night, pretty cool. But the US take on it isn't as good as the UK version. The one in the UK is even more humbling... You can tell this one on Fox is a bit fake I think.

Try catching an episode of the UK one and see what you think.

Ill see if I can track it down to watch one. I watch it for a bit selfish reasons right now too, cause I am back in the songwriting game, and have a bunch of writing sessions coming up with writers that have a ton of top 20 hits, and this show REALLY helps the emotions I need to write come out. The UK one should be cool due to the accents too hehe.

Watch one in the first couple seasons of the show. There was one in particular that I remember that had me balling but not because of what it did for the poor person but for what it did for the rich guy. That was when they had to live on their daily wages in the crap jobs and he had to go shop for himself and learn what he could really eat on the money he paid his staff back in his real life.

Unless I missed something, the 2nd couple also didn't give anything to that lady who took them on her little putter boat to her destroyed house. Don't you know she was pissed off seeing they gave others all that money!

The son and the father one really showed how you lived in squalor. They had no car (certainly not a leather interior Suburban) and had to pay for that nasty apartment by working every day.

The 3rd one I pretty much fast forwarded through - it was starting to get repetitive. The one with the blonde lady coming up looks better.

i watched the first one and the whole time i kept hoping they'd say how they explained the cameras to the people...i mean a camera crew was following them around when they just moved into the neighborhood and are supposed to be broke like them? i'm guessing they had a story to tell the people why there were cameras, but it bothered me. i haven't seen any after that, but thought it was a generous and sweet idea (if it's real).

I thought it was a good show - I just found the way we drug out telling them hes a millionaire... I mean i know they have to extend it a little for suspense and commercials... but it was just weird...

Cool show nonetheless

I watched the first episode on fox.com and although it was touching, it was obvious that they didn't just randomly 'find' these people in need. Sure there are good people who are/have been down on their luck and like to pay it forward (the construction lady) and those who will give every last penny they have to the less fortunate (homeless shelter lady) but they are very rare. You know that the area was 'scouted' ahead of time to find these people.

Watched the first part of episode two and turned it off when they rolled up to their RV in their big ol' suburban. Why didn't they have to find shelter and transportation like the father and son did. What a joke.

So I watched the first two episodes of 'Leverage' on TNT.com instead. Now THAT is a good show.

I saw it for the first time the other night and loved the show. It was the one with the guy named G were he owned two internet companies and sold them to yahoo for millions of dollars. He decided to help out a few people out by donating around $100,000 or something like that.
