I was just watching that last night.

There's just something hot about a bunch of demons and wizards all worked up and fighting over a stupid ring.

And the gay little hobbits who just want to rip off each other's clothes and toss each other's salad... how can you not dig it?

LOTR > Star Wars

Most people in the U.S. was forced to read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books while in high school. I was a fan of the books so when I saw the movies I thought it was a great representation of the books. The special effects were cutting edge and the story was followed with great detail.

You don't like it simply because it's called Two Towers and you somehow associate that with two cocks. Not sure how, but you managed. I bet you giggle everytime someone says rock hard, too.

Obviously this thread was started just to start some shit. You are talking about one of the if not the best Film series ever made.

Let's start with he book which has sole over 150,000,000 copies and is in the top best selling books of all time.

Next the fact that all 3 films won a huge amount of awards across the board.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the ring:
Awards: Won 4 Oscars. Another 76 wins & 83 nominations

Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers:
Won 2 Oscars. Another 65 wins & 76 nominations

Lord of The rings: The fellowship of the King:
Won 11 Oscars. Another 106 wins & 68 nominations

You think those people that gave the awards and the record movie sales might indicate you opinion really does not matter. Just maybe?

Not to mention the book basically started and is the origin of almost anything related to the medieval fantasy genre.

If you don't like the movies or fantasy fine. But there is no denying the incredible achievement these films represent in every aspect of movie making across the board from acting, directing, cinematography, film adaptation and special effects.

Star wars never won that Awards the LOTR won. When people in the industry recognize the achievement across the board it's good film most of the time. When you also have a huge number of fans That confirms it.

I love Star Wars as well. But it never got the recognition the LOTR got. I mean look Starwars has some flaws in it also. Like the stormtrooper bumping his head lol.

Tolkien: A cunning linguist

I'm not a Tolkien expert, but there are a few details that always get lost in discussions about his work.

1. Tolkien was primarily a linguist; he studied the nature of languages.

2. He created entire languages, including alphabets and grammar, such as the Elvish and Dwarvish languages in particular as well as others. (And yes, there are people who speak the Elvish language...and one even served as a consultant on the movies.)

3. His books were used as a vehicle to showcase his linguistic creations.

4. His works have become the foundation upon which the modern fantasy genre is based. It is very difficult to find a modern work in the genre which is not based, or heavily influenced by Tolkien.

5. The movies, and there are three of them (Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, and Return of the King). Are based on at least four of Tolkien's books, and the books are prodigious and filled with details. The movies do an admirable job of condensing literally years of material into mere hours.

Great Books, crappy movies ...
Just like how they're destroying the Marvel Comic legacy now

wow your so intellectual when it comes to movies, you deserve an Oscar for your performance in this thread!

It gets awards because it took a trillion dollars to make it and it involved lots of directors who dont get haircuts dont shower and dont change their clothing, and because we are in a planet that sheep follow sheep once people start saying how amazing something is everyone starts watching it etc. fact is most people have no clue what the fuck the story is (including yourself).

Curious George cartoons will be more entertaining to most than this sheep follow sheep successful movies.
