I am a Miami Dolpins fan

Does anyone have a paper bag I can borrow to wear over my head?

I really thought Baltimore had the Pats beat tonight too....that would have at least been something small for us Fins fans to celebrate, but they let em off the hook.

They may go winless in the year their undefeated record is tied.

Yeah well the Pats may have a perfect season but we'll be the only team with two perfect seasons.

I feel your pain man, but we still face the Patriots in New England in 3 weeks, and stranger things have happened. I fucking hate the Patriots and can't stand looking at Tom Brady's smug face, and it would be hysterical if we beat them for our only win of the year, and their only loss.

I would like to see them take the leash off of John Beck and let him air it out a bit. He has a much better arm than he is given credit for and the short passes for minimal gains just aren't cutting it. Then again, that would be tough with no running game or receivers to speak of...

Sadly, I too am a Dolphins fan. I was in elementary school when Griese, Kick, Czonka, Warfield, Morris, and the rest of the crew went 17-0 I was down in Miami all through the 1980's when Marino set the world on fire.
And now?
Let's just say I haven't watched ANY games this season.

I am a lifelong Miami fan and so depressed because of the way this season is turning out. I like your comments above but honestly, we could not win a Pop Warner game at this point. Beck tried to air it out yesterday and got picked like a crusty ass. He stares at every receiver he is going to throw to right from the snap. Watch him and you will see. He is shittier than Cleo Lemon and scared to be out there. He came off the bench 2 seasons too early. I am interested to see who the Dolphin's have left in both players and coaches after this pitiful season.

I disagree on the comments about Beck. No quarterback would be able to play well in the current situation.

Our running back was a guy we cut from the practice squad a week earlier and then resigned when Ricky Williams got hurt in last weeks game.
When the opposing defense doesn't have to respect the run at all, they can get in the QB's face alot quicker. Of course the secondary knows this also, so they're ready to take away the short passes and hot reads so the result is sacks that result in QB fumbles and interceptions.

Beck played a much better game against a much better defense two weeks ago, simply because Chatman was running the ball well so that set up the passing game for him.

There's no way you can "air it out" when even on max protection you don't have time to let those routes develop, and there's no way you can blame any of this on Beck.

Let's just say I haven't watched ANY games this season.
That's before my time.
I grew up watching Marino. I was in 4th grade when they played in the SB against the 49ers.

The thing that really stings about this is that the dolphins for 3 decades had winning teams and were in the playoffs almost every year.
It's not until recently that they've been in decline, and now I know what it feels like to be a Bengals fan, a Bucs fan, a Saints fan, a <insert team here> fan....because all teams have to go through these painful rebuilding periods at some time or another.....and some of them go for 10+ years with losing records.

The upside is I remember Jimmy Johnson's first year in Dallas, they were 1-15 with a rookie QB named Troy Aikman. That turned out ok for them all in the end.

Even San Diego a few years ago had the #1 pick in the draft when they made that Eli Manning trade with the Giants, and even though they're having an off year this year, they're a very young and talented team that should be in the playoffs every year for awhile.

So hopefully we can use the high draft picks coming our way to build a team like that for the future.

One thing is for sure though, sticking by your team through horrible seasons like this ought to make it that much sweeter when we do finally start winning.

I can't stand all the "johnny come lately" fans out there...who are Patriot fans today, but who were Pittsburgh fans last year etc.

True fans stick with their teams, even when they're as pathetic as mine is right now

I never would have dreamed when I started this thread a year ago that the Fins would win their division this year.
I knew they couldn't get any worse but I never expected this.

I'd like to thank Brett Favre for coming out of retirement, because without that we'd never have gotten Chad Pennington.
I'd also like to thank Cam Cameron for being so utterly horrible that the team had a mutiny and got him fired. If he had just been borderline pathetic like alot of coaches he wouldn't have gotten fired and we wouldn't have gotten Bill Parcells.

*woot woot*

Now here comes the part that worries me...Chris Mortensen is already reporting that Bill Parcells has a 30 day out clause in his contract when Stephen Ross takes over ownership of the team in the beginning of 2009. I knew this already and wouldn't be worried, except for the fact that Parcells and Mortensen are friends and Mortensen always seems to get the Parcells scoops. He also reported that 4 teams are very interested in him (the Jets and the Ravens were the only ones I remember offhand).

I have the utmost faith in Jeff Ireland as the GM since he is a Parcells disciple, but I would hate to see Parcells one and done with the Dolphins, and if he goes back to the Jets I would fucking lose it. Hopefully Stephen Ross proves to Tuna that he is a hands off owner and talks him into staying...

I don't think he's going anywhere.

You have to look at it from the owner's point of view. Why would I hire a guy who's willing to walk after just 1 year with the Dolphins when they gave him everything he asked for and paid him more than anyone in a similar job (if anyone else even has a similar job)?
Plus who would Parcells hire to be the coach and GM at the next place? He's already raided the Dallas staff and roster to fill the Miami one.

For him it's not about the money, it's about the owner staying out of his hair....that's what pissed him off in NE and NY, and eventually led to him leaving Dallas as well. (T.O. anyone?.....btw, Parcells was right to not want him)

So this just gives him leverage to negotiate a side deal with the new owner to stay hands off. If the new guy wants to be Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones then Parcells is outta there.

i'd be somewhat worried if I was a Dolphins fan - more worried because of the insanely fast turnaround - if they had gone 7-9 or 8-8 the job wouldn't have been finished but with them winning the division at 11-5 I can see Parcells seeing that as 'mission accomplished' - he looks like the all time genius of football right now, he can leave right now with an accomplishment I doubt nobody else will duplicate. Teams that have big turnarounds in the NFL often slip back - he leaves, Dolphins slip next season, he looks even better. What I heard is that it's not just that he becomes a free agent when the team is sold, he can walk away receiving all the money for the full length of his contract.

i guess it will depend on how much he likes being in Miami and the new owner. On the plus side for Dolphin fans is that the franchises who would need Parcells most are in downtrodden cities like Buffalo and Cleveland or teams like Dallas and the Jets he's already been at and left.

Snake Doctor, I have to give it to you man, I remember when you started this thread in 2007 and Miami was going nowhere... I NEVER would have thought a big turnaround like that was even possible in 2008. congrats for sticking to your guns...

This being said, Pennington is usually injured half the season. Next year might still be a nightmare with a much tougher calendar...

It actually would have been a 5-11 or 6-10 season for the Fins this year, if Pennington hadn't fallen into our laps. That more than anything is the reason for the quick turnaround.
At the most important position in football we went from having nobody to having a top 10 guy. That's got to account for half of our win total right there.

I don't think Parcells is going anywhere, this is the type of job he's always wanted (remember he wanted to be G.M. of the Giants...but nobody would hire him without him taking on head coaching responsibilities too)
Now he gets to pick out the groceries without having to do the tedious day to day shit
GM's have to do.
