SeaGate FreeAgent Desk - Got one?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2180044 29317
Anyone got one of these? I need something for a backup solution. Any other products out there better for this purpose? The price on these is great.

I have used them before to ship the DV AVI's from content deals to clients.
Never had an issue. ![]() |

have fun filling it with USB LMAO I have a pair of USB 500Gb drives and transferring data to it SUCKS, ESATA or firewire is the only way to go for portable drives. If you use it to simply drop things like movies onto then USB is fine but if you are constantly transferring data back and forth don't even think about USB

+1 for eSATA, transfers go at native speed (same as if the drive was installed inside your computer) rather than being shoehorned through another interface such as USB or Firewire.
And I also hate Seagate. I bought 4 drives and ended up with (including the replacements) 6 new drives, 6 recos, 7 failures. |

It's fucked up newegg and other shops won't spend a little more money so the drives don't get damaged. I've received about 4 of them from newegg that went bad, different brands too. Won't be buying HDD from there anymore. |

My purchase of 4 was OEM from a retail shopfront. It's possible the "new" drives were damaged somewhere between Seagate's factory and my hot little hands, but don't forget that some of the replacement drives shipped from Seagate (in their approved packaging) also went faulty.
I switched over to WD, 2 failures so far, but I use a fair few HDs and that's a much, much better record than Seagate. |

i think this is the most basic version you listed here sly
i have the pro version with esata 750gb in black and orange its very nice looking so far so good but now I'm leaning towards the XTREME version check it out only $220 for 1.5tb http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218009477014 btw the xtreme has an on and off button which the other versions dont have which is pretty fucking stupidly annoying. |

This is only really the case when it comes to Seagate which might I add seems to fucking suck in recent years quality wise with the acquisitions of quantum and maxtor, two horrible hard drive brands.

I'm not pleased with the software that came with my FreeAgent, but it's a bit older.

we run all terabyte seagates internally, with a mix of maxtor and seagate terabyte externals. Haven't had a problem for at least a year.
