Sweden Vs Canada - World Jr Hockey Championships gold, here we go

Both are 5-0 in what has been a very entertaining tournament. Canada is looking for their 5th straight gold medal win, while the Swedes are looking for their first one since 1981.

Should be a great game.

GO CANADA!

Incredible game so far. Fierce end-to-end action.

Still 1-0 Canada, and I think Canada is outplaying them so far, but not by much.

You can watch it here live: http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/
There's a link just to the right of the main picture that says: "Watch live now - Canada vs Sweden"

After one period it's still Canada 1, Sweden 0.

Damn, that Swedish goalie deserves an academy award for overacting on that play.

Hedman should have got a penalty, he punched Esposito in the head after the play. It was obvious to all except the refs I guess.

.....

Then....

BOOM: 2-0 CANADA!!!!

End of 2nd period, still 2-0.

Canada starts 3rd period on a power play, weeee.

On a side note, I don't remember ever seeing so many broken sticks in a game like there've been in this one. Both teams are going all out, boards rattling, bodies flying.

I love it.

Canada just has to watch the penalties.

Not really. You actually have to be watching the game to know for sure though. A few calls have been a bit iffy in my opinion, and there have been a few missed calls that could have gone against Sweden.

You can bet money that Canada is always going to play rough, but not necessarily dirty.

You don't think I watched the game? LOL

Now tell me with a straight face that It wasn't a penalty on Esposito when he clearly stuck out his leg and tripped the Swedish goaltender, 1 minute later he scores 2-0.

And to say Canada didn't play dirty is pretty blue-eye'd.

That said, Sweden didn't fes up enough in special teams and Canada won fair and square though.

Next year we will beat ya. Congrats.

I know a lot of people call these jr players "kids" but the fact is they are the next wave of NHL players and in fact a lot of them are already on NHL teams or spoken for by them.

They may be 17-18 yr old kids but they're going to be bloody rich kids very soon.

He was going for the puck, not the goaltender. Sorry, you lose.

To say they did is either the crying of a whiner, or of someone who just doesn't know hockey enough to know the difference between tough play and dirty play. Which one are you?

Agreed, Sweden's penalty kill wasn't very effective this game, and neither was their power play.

See you in Saskatoon, as they say.

I have no doubt the Swedes will continue to be serious contenders, they only seem to get better and better. But to imply that Canada played dirty just isn't right. Our mandate has never been to play the game that way. There are exceptions of course, but there are exceptions in every country's teams, certain individuals who give a little more punishment than they should, lose their cool easier, etc.

If anything Canada's hockey teams seem to push the players of other countries to become better, in order to some day... beat us.

Any win takes a certain amount of luck. To chalk their entire win over Russia to "getting lucky" is pretty naive of you though. Didn't a Russian player miss a key shot on an empty net? Is that luck on Canada's part or a mistake on Russia's part? And that goal Canada got looked like a lot of skill was going on there too along with all this "luck" we're talking.

I suppose while we're disagreeing someone should say that it should have been Canada-Russia in the final, because of the two I'd say Russia was a tougher team to beat than Sweden.

Conjecture aside, Canada now looks forward to getting a record 6th Jr Championship gold a year from now.

Cheers.

I have looked at the situation 20 times now and I can clearly say he absolutly could have avoided sticking his leg out like that, in my eye's It's clearly on purpose.

To say they did is either the crying of a whiner, or of someone who just doesn't know hockey enough to know the difference between tough play and dirty play. Which one are you?

They practically ran over our goaltender 4 times, that is dirty play to me. How ever it was not those things that made Sweden lose.

Agreed, Sweden's penalty kill wasn't very effective this game, and neither was their power play.

The PP was worst.

Sounds like you have never been beat.

No worries, if there is one thing I've learned it's to never argue hockey with a Canadian LOL

And Sweden beat Russia 5-0. Just because Canada has a harder time with 1 team doesn't mean that team is automatically the better LOL

I looked at every replay TSN provided, and they showed several from different angles. He was going for the puck, not the goalie.

If anything your Hedman guy should have gotten a penatly for punching Esposito like he did, and your goaltender was in academy award mode for overacting and embellishing the hit.

I've never seen a player's headgear come off so easily as the Swedish goaltender's did. Sneeze on him and there goes his headgear flying through the air.

And yes, Canada has been beaten before. Just not as often as we've won, that's all. :D

True, which is why I think that to say "Canada got lucky" is pretty naive.

Every team deserved what they got, end of story.

I've never seen a player's headgear come off so easily as the Swedish goaltender's did. Sneeze on him and there goes his headgear flying through the air.

And yes, Canada has been beaten before. Just not as often as we've won, that's all. :D
Let's flip the case, I don't even want to dare to think what would have happened if a Swedish palyer leg-tackled your goalie like that. And you keep saying he went for the puck as if that has anything with the leg to do, he purposly held his leg out and cut the goaltenders leg, that is 2min penalty.

And the second run over is clearly interferance, the goaltender is absolutley out of play going for the bench cause of a delayed penalty when Della Rovere runs him over from the side.

That said, yep each team got what they deserved in the end, Canada had better special teams and were more agressive.

lol, if tieing the game 5 seconds before the end is not "being lucky" then what is "being lucky"

being lucky is when skill doesnt play a major factor, being lucky is when luck plays a major role. You cant tie a game 5 seconds after a game now that would be lucky

I simply disagree with that OPINION, as did the refs, as did all the TSN sports analysts and announcers, as did everyone I've spoken to that saw the game. I think your bias has you seeing something that isn't there. "Purposely" implies intent. I see no intent in the replay, sorry. The player himself says there was no intent, they simply collided is all, which happens in the game of hockey from time to time. I understand you wanting your team to win, but your goaltender is one of the worst embellishers I've seen, and as several announcers said after that game, once he gets into the NHL the team he plays for is going to have to work on him to rid him of this sucky habit of taking wild dives over virtually nothing, trying to snivel penalties and such.

And someone needs to take a staple gun to him and bolt on his headgear for him. It comes off way too easy.
