:stop Should Burris be seated as Senator for IL? Our Government is out of control!

Anyone following this?

I see no reason he should not. Although Governor Blagojevich is currently under criminal investigation, he has not been fired as Gov. And therefore has legal right to appoint Burris.

However, Burris needs his appointment letter to be co-signed by the Secretary of State who refuses to sign it because of the criminal charges pending against the Gov.

This just goes to show that the system only works when it is a benefit of the government. In a move to say "fuck you" the Gov. appointed someone who is not approved by the "empire", and it is a clear example that although duly appointed by a representative duly elected by the poeple, the Goverment can do what they want...

Scary stuff!

Didn't he pay for/buy the appointment?

What they should do is hold an election for the position

Burris is in a bad situation no matter what...but the law is the law, and he should have been let into the senate.

He has a legal right, according to the LAW to be let into the Senate. What is happening is illegal, and he will win whatever suit is brought forward.

I live here in Chicago so it's on all the news.

I can't believe they didn't allow him on the Senate floor. The secretary of state has no authority to overrule a legal appointment by the Governor.

But the basis of the Governer's problem is that he was trying to sell a political appointment. Do people really think this doesn't happen. When Hillary met with Obama after she lost the nomination and a day after started campaigning for him, obviously a deal was made to offer her a cabinet appointment. What's the difference? It's called politics. Blago just was too outspoken about it.

Also, Blago never committed any crime. He was a desperate man who was rambling ideas during a phone call. That's not illegal, at least not yet in America. That's not even conspiracy to commit a crime if you are just talking about it.

The guy is a total crook and piece of shit, but he never broke the law or even came close. That's why the prosecutor asked for an extension to bring an indictment. Not because the case is so complex, but because they don't have enough yet.

He got close to breaking the law. You can't accept money or gifts for an appointment like that.

Hillary being offered a position was a completely different situation.
