Do you find that your favorite food tastes are in line with where you live?

Before I moved to Austin I never ate BBQ. Back in LA it was always Mexican and most forms of Asian and seafood cuisine when dining out. I still enjoy all that but given how big BBQ is here... even at 40 my tastes still are changing. Could eat BBQ and Tex-Mex and southern alternating every few days... thankfully I don't tho!!

Hmm, I don't know. Here in Philadelphia, I don't really get into scrapple but I do like a cheesesteak now and then. Where I grew up, it was all polish foods like pierogies and halupki/halushki and I was not into that.

But when I visited Louisiana last year, I loved everything I tried! Maybe I'm not cut out for the Northeast, haha.

BBQ is good, but TX BBQ is mediocre at best. Try it in NC.

thats one thing i really miss about LA is the variety of food. central LA had some really great BBQ places. i saw a few on the Food channel and went to try them out and well worth it.

back in central PA im limited to chains and expensive Italian and steak restaurants. there are a few sushi places around, but they are moderate compared to elsewhere. However, i must say that I LOVE the chinese food here. much much better than LA, but definitely not worth sticking around for

I can get almost anything I want in NYC and Jersey, but I've never had better food, nor eaten more in my life, than in Italy and Spain.

I have been to Austin, it is my favorite city in TX, but it doesn't change the fact that TX BBQ < NC BBQ.

Use to go to a hole in the wall one just out side of Gainesville Florida. over they door they had a sign that said.

"We will Sell No Swine before its Time". EVERY thing they sold was good. Even the sweet iced tea was worth the drive though.

Food in Austin is great. Incredible BBQ... lots of very good Tex-Mex. Fuck I would kill for either one of those. Where I live now the food selection consists entirely of potatoes, mayonnaise and mystery meat (cabbage and beets are available for variety).

The one thing I missed in S.Florida was Tex-Mex which I could easily eat every day and so that big plus being back in Texas!

You're making me crave Austin food. I could really go for some Guero's fajitas and rice...

Is the central PA food worse than the northeastern PA food I grew up on? I hope it doesn't get worse. I don't think I've ever seen sushi in my hometown areas! Hahaha.

Seriously though Austin has some of the best BBQ ever! Stubbs, Rubys, Coopers... the list goes on.

Mediocre at best? Please, NC, KS, TN, have nothing on Texas. Though what I really miss is the tex-mex, I cant find anything close to it here in DC.

I would agree. I've always said that I'd like to take a eating vacation in New Orleans! Good stuff

Back in 97-98 when I first lived in New Orleans for a year it freaked me out at the lack of Mexican food. The tortillas in the grocery store were in the cold deli meat section, instead of an aisle end cap with hundreds of packs of tortillas like in Los Angeles.

Thankfully Katrina brought this huge influx of Latinos and now they have tortilla sections in Winn Dixie even.

the Tex-Mex thing just isn't for me, and that is what most people think of Mexican food down here. Now there are latino markets opening up too, I am hoping they put a nice one near our hood soon.

Heh... no sense in continuing to dignify that. Austin has KILLER food. I'm currently enjoying Smokey Mo's. And there's a little dive nearby owned by a Mexican family with some of the best pork tamales I've ever had. And they are SPICY.

I enjoy Threadgills chicken fried steak with a side of fried okra.... gooooooood stuff.
