Better deals on 50+ plasma, they are on their way out, heavy as fuck, better colors but not quite as crisp as LCD's

There is no comparison. LCD is far superior. Plasma is like looking at high definition tv through a glass window. Simply put plasma sucks. Spend the extra for an LCD. My 52 inch tv is awesome!

Plasma is way way way way better...

Maybe if you sit straight on the LCD and are in a Dark as fuck room the lcd might look better. But under normal conditions in your family room the plasma beats it hands down.

are you nuts? LCD is better quality, last longer, and is overall better quality. plasma lasts a max of 5 years! max! some blow out at 2 or 3 and get burnt in pixels. if you got the money for an LCD get it! don't go plasma thats 90s and is not good at all!

I love my plasma. In fact, it's so bright that if I don't use the feature to automatically turn down the brightness at night it hurts to look at it.

It was heavy as anything to mount

Facts are simple

1.Plasma tv's will last longer, with greater than 50% brightness, than most users will want them. Some tests outpreform tubes;

2. Burn-in, or aging, may have been a sympton of old, old first units, but not a problem as any imaging fades, just as in a tube;

3. Advantage-Plasma exhibit no motion artifacts like other flat panel tv's;

4.Advantage- Plasma's horzizontal and vertical viewing is better than any new technology on the market and as good as any tube, including Sony;

5. Advantage-Plasma contrast ratio and black level make it the best big screen home entertainment choice available.....enough said

I would not get an LCD unless you have a small room and you want to view the shit straight on, if you have any sort of viewing angle then get Plasma. You will enjoy a brighter more lively picture with Plasma.

If you lived near me i'd say come over and you can see the difference, and you'll go Plasma.

I should add. I am not saying a LCD picture is bad because it's not. Plasma is just better!

people who own plasma TVs will find out in a few years they need replacing or they are no longer standard. they are betamax to VHS and HDDVD to Blu Ray. they do not perform like LCD. simple as that. Why are LCD more Expensive than plasma? is the same question as why pay $250,000 for a lambo when i can buy a hyundai accent for $10,000

Plasma 50" http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2097722 10029 - $2500

LCD 50" http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202649422514 $2300

not enough of a difference in price, and sharp makes a great lcd and panasonic a great plasma.

While plasmas are traditionally better in dark rooms, LCDs have been credited with having much less glare in a light-filled room. But, some critics contend that plasmas have a harder time displaying content in 1080p resolution, thereby making future plasmas more expensive

LCD is the best no questions asked. why are people dropping plasma? why are they less popular? why do they burn out? why do they pixelate?

May I also add. TFT monitors are the TV version of plasma.
LCD monitors are brighter, sharper, and last longer!

To be frank with you. if you don't have HD whatever tv you get with a shit quality picture it will pixelated anyway so why bother?

Get a hd projector and skip the lcd plasma debate

stick with LCD its better than plasma, cheaper, will be the standard of the future (until something else comes along) and will generally be better for you in the long run.

Like i said if you want a big picture and ain't too fussed about quality just buy a projector. huge picture and get what you pay for. no lcd plasma bollocks at all.

I cannot believe anyone could even suggest plasma as better looking than LCD. Just go to a store and look for yourself. The difference is night and day. With plasma the image is behind a glass like you are looking at tv through a reflective window. LCD is crisp and brilliant.

Old facts

That was all true but is not any longer. They have "moving pixels" now to make burn in impossible and are likely to last a very long time.

As for your "LCD is better quality, last longer, and is overall better quality" statement, saying it has better quality twice does not make it true.

Quality is a vague word. Plasma is every bit as good as LCD, and vice versa. It all comes down to preference.

As far as the "looking at it through a glass" argument, the same can be said when picking laptops. Some are matte finishes, some are gloss. They are both the same quality.

I agree. My plasma has beautiful colors. The only problem with plasma is it will get pixelated if action is too fast... like action movies or watching sports, but I think you only notice if you are sitting really close.

Dude, simple things you should consider when you buy a gadget.
1.) how much? ( if you have enough money thats given)
2.) Quality (this one can confuse you a lot)
3.) Durability (never spend money in a short term service)

I have a 46 inch 1080p LCD and no matter how much light is in the room, day, night, no matter what angle you look at the tv at it looks awesome.

AARGHH!!!

Geeze guys, get up to date on your technology for f sakes....

If your TV gets pixelated when action is going too fast, it being LCD or PLASMA has nothing to do with it. It is the COMPRESSION of the signal that sucks. If the broadcaster can't compress the signal fast enough, or if your TV or Set top box can't DECOMPRESS the signal, or if there's not enough data in that particular moment of video, Thats when you get pixelation. Geeze. Or if your favorite station is a cheap-ass and they overcompress the signal (Thank you, SPACE! You fucking suck!) then you will get an ugly, muddy picture. Nothing to do with your TV at all there, Vern!

Anyway, if you want a cheap TV, Buy an LCD or plasma. Both are good, and you won't go wrong with either one. End of story.

BUT, if you want the Latest and greatest, DON'T BUY now. Wait a few months. There is lots of cool technology coming out right now which should hit your stores any day, like 120Hz TV's. 1 Million to 1 Contrast Ratios. True OLED TV's (instead of the current crop that use OLED's for backlights, or the older pile that use fluorescent backlights).

The BEST TV is the BEST TV FOR YOU, period. Buy the sexiest unit you can afford, and back it up with an all digital extras like a Blu Ray player, HD Satelite, Digital Sound with Dolby 7.1, DTS and THX. Use all HDMI Cable. Don't waste your money on that Monster Cable bullshit. ESPECIALLY don't waste your money on "power conditioners that extend the life of your equipment". Instead, spend extra money to get some good sound (100 Watts RMS x 7 is great for most rooms, 300 Watts RMS x 7 kicks ass). Don't forget a good quality sub-woofer.

Bring it all home, kick your wife out of the house, hook it all up yourself then watch THE DARK KNIGHT with your buddies. You'll be in theatre-tech couch potato heaven.

I have one of each - 42" plasma and 56" LCD both 1080p. In all honestly, the picture on the plasma is better. it provides an almost true black pixel and can give a sharper image.

however, plasmas are a bit more expensive for the higher end model and may require a little more care then a LCD (i.e. burn in on older lower quality models, have to keep it straight up during moving, etc).

the main thing is the glare and sun light in the room. if you have direct sunlight go with a LCD because it will have a brighter picture to counter act the sunlight

in all honestly, it comes down to your budget. dont be cheap, but think about how much you want to spend. anything less than $2k i would say LCD. $4k+ is a really nice quality plasma

Oh man, I am in love with my wall-mounted 50 inch plasma....the most gorgeous colors, so sharp and crisp, you can see it perfectly from any angle in the room. Love it.

If it's a XBOX360 then yes you do have something that does 1080p. You should see the games in it. Kick ass.

And if you want something large, that looks as good as plasma and LCD then you might look at a DLP rear projection. I have the Mitsubishi 65" which does 1080p and the blueray movies look just as good as my 42" plasma at 1080p. The only difference I see is the LCD at 1080p. It has a strange look. Kinda like watching a home movie. My friends don't like the LCD as much for movies. But for gaming if you get one with 120Hz it kicks ass. But try finding a 65" LCD for $1400. The price I paid for my DLP. And they are pretty thin now days.

Wow so many uninformed people, ********** made some good points but and ill add some more.

First ill say i have a fairly new 50inch panasonic and i experience no heat issues but ive felt other branded plasmas and older model plasmas(2-3yrs old) that do give off ALOT of heat and i am very happy with it for SD/HD tv, xbox and bluray.

If you compare them instore check the back of the panel to see what input they are using, one might look better than the other if its using hdmi instead of component.

Compare the tvs from the distance that you sit from your tv, so if u sit 3meters from the tv stand 3meters back in the store not 1meter.

Best advice anyone can give you is find some people you know that have similar tvs that you are looking at buying, stick in your xbox play a game and watch a dvd and see what YOU like better.

Dont get sucked into buying the upsells, $100 for a monster cable, high end surge catcher, high end aerial cable etc...

Look online for tv forums that compare models and see what people are saying about the ones you are interested in, get consumer feedback.

Hahaha... my family got me the Dark Knight for Christmas, complete with IMAX scenes. My wife wanted to watch it right away and I said fine, but she'll be watching it again once we get home because I refuse to watch it on an old tv.
I've seen it in theaters but I want to watch it again at home on my plasma with surround sound. Not on an old boob tube.

So she said fine, and waited.

She thanked me later.

You could ask a bunch of cocks on here who don't know what they are talking about or you could read Robert Heron's guides on PCMag and DL.TV

He actually is an engineer. He TESTS the tvs in all manner of lab bench marks. He knows his shit.

And he doesn't recommend one over the other either.
In fact, he makes an interesting comment about refresh rate. LCD's finally have 120hz but plasma doesn't even need it. It already has a crisp fast image. Does that make plasma better? No. Does it make it worse? No.

My Hero !

Lcd all the way, I have a lcd myself and the quality is way way better than the average plasma screen.

Plasma is a bit more colorful but imho that's not really a point you should consider when buying one.

Btw if you can't view your lcd from the side then your lcd is just crap.

Every technology has its pros and cons, otherwise one would become obsolete. Raed the pros and cons on specialized sites and act.
