Whats a good first handgun for a 5 year old.

i want to get my nephew a handgun for his upcoming 5th b-day.

it needs to be something he can handle and probably small enough for someone his size to conceal.

size wise, a 22 caliber pistol would work, but i just dont think he will be happy with the stopping power if he ever gets in a jam.

do you think the ppk is too heavy for a five year old and does the ppk have the stopping power?

please let me know what would be the best for him..

Anything chambered .357 and up should have enough stopping power for those playground firefights, but if you want him to be totally safe, I would recommend a Thompson .45 with a 50 round mag. He probably won't need ranges longer than 50 yards, and at full auto, he can take out multiple targets quickly. As long as you teach him about muzzle rise the recoil is very easy to handle

I think they are making a "Spongebob" color scheme for the thompson now.... should be a big hit with your nephew

Definitely a .22. That's what I started my daughter on when she was 5. She likes a .38 now though.

Ignore all the pussies, bitches, and softhearted faggots that are undoubtedly going to make their way into this thread.

At 5 years old, I was shooting gophers with my dad's single shot .22 all day long, i loved it. but i had hand the staple 'daisy red ryder' for a year easy by that time. I'd say at 5 years old, a good startr pistol, would be a Marksmen or Daisy BB gun. They aren't overly expensive, aren't likely to kill much of anything or hurt anyone too badly in the case of an accident. Spend some time withhim, teach him the rules, and make sure they are enforced upon him, If he jackasses around with it, points it at someone (even unloaded) etc etc, take it a way in a snap. I used to love laying int he grass with my red ryder shootin bumble bees off my mom's flowers. Get him a BB gun and he'll blow hours in the backyard shooting pop cans up. He doesn't need a handcannon to have fun or learn proper shooting ethics. give him some time with the pistol until you are comfortable that he has the proper ethics instilled in him, then bump him up a .22 revolver or something rad like that...

The lady derringer .357 would be perfect for his small fingers. It has great stopping power although it is only a single shot.

Smith and Wesson Centennial:
My six year old has no trouble handling it. It's small, light, and has the decent stopping power of a .38. Plus it's hammerless so when someone tries to take his lunch money, he can shoot it while still inside his coat pocket without it getting jammed on the fabric or being caught on elementary school surveillance cameras waiving it around.

Another plus is the built in lock. A small key (like a handcuff key) you can keep on your key chain locks/unlocks the gun, giving added locking safety so you don't have to scratch it up with a cable or trigger lock when left in his cubbie hole or spongebob lunchbox in the back of the classroom.

Not very accurate though, small barrel and light weight means it must be used at close range. But other than that, it's great for that little gansta thug in your life.

Guns don't kill people, poorly parented children do.

When I was about 7. My uncle trained me with his first gun.

Its a was a single shot 12 gauge with no recoil pad.

The words are ringing in my ear. "Make a man out of you yet"

Seriously, a 5 yr old needs something fun, something to keep him occupied.

You should get him a Swiss army gun

Get him one of these...

Quote:
Oct. 27, 2008 ?

With his father and a firearms instructor standing nearby, an 8-year-old Connecticut boy shot himself in the head with a submachine gun yesterday, killing himself in an accident some say should never have happened.

Christopher Bizilj was testing a 9 mm Micro Uzi at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in Westfield, Mass., as part of the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo, when he shot himself Sunday.

"The firearm instructor prepped the weapon for him, and once it was ready he handed it to the child," Westfield Police Lt. Hipolito Nunez told ABCNews.com today. Christopher then pulled the trigger, and the gun's recoil pulled the barrel upward, causing a round to hit him on the right side of his head, according Nunez. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Baystate Medical Center in nearby Springfield.

Massachusetts law allows a child to fire a gun with parental consent, so long as there's an active permit for the gun and a licensed firearm instructor is supervising. It is unclear whether the gun had a permit or whether the instructor was licensed, but Nunez said Christopher's father was nearby.

Christopher's family, including his father, Dr. Charles Bizilj, who is the director of emergency medicine at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, Conn., could not be reached for comment.

But according to Ted Oven, a gun retailer and president of the Massachusetts Association of Firearms Dealers, Christopher should have never been allowed to handle a submachine gun on his own.

Oven has shot similar weapons and said the recoil is tough to control even for an adult.

"It requires all my strength," said Oven, who added that he did not have much experience with the Micro Uzi. "For an 8-year-old, it was inappropriate."

The Micro Uzi, he said, is a tough gun to get a permit for and retails for several thousand dollars. He was not at the expo when Christopher was shot but said that because the gun is fully automatic, it likely shot off several rounds in a couple of seconds when the boy pulled the trigger.

Information found on Uzitalk.com, an Internet forum dedicated to the Israeli-made submachine guns, described the Micro Uzi as coming on the market in 1986 and having the capability to fire 25 rounds in less than 30 seconds. The guns, manufactured by Israeli Military Industries Ltd., are generally designed for military and police use.

he was wearing baggy pants for awhile which was plenty of room for all his gear, but then he got into wearing alligator gucci loafers and now he likes his pants a little tighter around the legs so he can show those gators off to the ladies...
