And CCBill Keeps Trying Blah...

Yet another email from a US processor with "hooks" and "clauses" to suit - all the more reason as to why anyone should not touch a US domestic processor - the rules and small detail simply change to suit them as time goes by - just yet another attempt to retain a client base.

Email From CCBill:

Dear Webmaster:
In relationship to the above account, we have not received a response from you on whether you wish to register your company with CCBill.com as a VISA IPSP Sponsored Merchant, or if you wish to discontinue the processing of VISA transactions for your website upon the VISA IPSP mandated deadline of Friday, November 15, 2002. (In accordance with standard banking practices, this deadline is equivalent to Thursday, November 14, 2002, at 1 pm MST).
With regards to your current status with CCBill.com, as of today, at 1:00 pm MST, your VISA processing will cease with CCBill.com, so it is important for you to note the following:
Under the terms of your original agreement with CCBill.com, in order to keep your account in good standing and to continue to receive payment for your website?s sales, you are required to keep your website?s members area accessible to all your current members through the life of their existing subscriptions.
For your Members who used VISA as payment for their subscription to your website, they would be eligible to receive access to your member?s area until their current subscription period is completed.
For your Members who used an alternate method of payment for their subscription, such as MasterCard, Discover, JCB or Online Checking, they should be allowed access in relationship to their recurring billing for those payment methods.
IMPORTANT: new and recurring sales for MasterCard, Discover, JCB and Online Checking are not affected by the VISA IPSP situation and will continue after the November 15, 2002 deadline.
It is also important for you to know that failure to comply with the above terms will result in the immediate halting of payment of funds for this account, and refunds will be immediately issued to your members. CCBill will continue to hold all remaining funds until we are certain that there will be no late chargebacks. The minimum period of time will be 12 months.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we would like to thank you for your continued patience with both us and the current VISA situation. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact your account representative at [email protected].
Best regards,
Ron Cadwell
CEO
CCBill.com

This is yet another suitably vague email. The relevant points appear to be:

(a) CCBill will shut off all members who paid for a months access and refund their money? In that case the "shut off date" is not November 15th, but October 15th.

(b) "failure to comply with the above terms will result in the immediate halting of payment of funds for this account, and refunds will be immediately issued to your members." So unless a webmaster retains a password file with the current members and allow access, CCBill will halt all payments on the account and issue refunds as they see fit?
Nice!

(c) "The minimum period of time will be 12 months." Yes? Interesting time frame. Does this include "the account" in total irrespective of whether VISA are involved or not?

Gotta say, I never seen such a load of crap yet! These people are not of any value on this basis and are wound up in how to pressure webmasters to stay with them by introducing "little details" which they seem to assume is "ammunition" against the client in an attempt to penalize. Admittedly, they are working with the restrictions they have with VISA - but the (smooth?) transition and behavior is a joke!.

Time to wait for some more rope to arrive and test this lot out - Keep issuing this dribble Ron! *g*

I think all it means is that, if you had a customer sign up for a membership you have to give them the access period that they have paid for.....no big deal, nothing sinister.

I don't know how you work this out....the deal is, as I understand it...no rebills for Visa will be made after the 15th Nov...when a rebill is due after this date, it will just show as a decline and their membership access will be cut...

Online Checks etc are not affected.
