Discuss what's fucking going on, and which programs are best and worst. One-time "program" announcements from "established" webmasters are allowed.

Auto backup software for the external hard drive?

I just bought and installed an external hard drive for probably weekly backup purposes but also to store large files that I don't need to access often. It came with a free trial of a couple different programs... one is to auto backup and one is to auto sync. The software company is called Memeo.

Should I go ahead and use/purchase one of these or is there an easier way to only backup once a week? I really don't want another program running in the background 24/7. So I would prefer doing a "one-off" every week by myself.

Suggestions?

I got myself a Maxtor 1 button back up drive... USB. You set it up, pick the folders you want and the schedule right on the drive... and it just goes ahead and does it.
Very handy.

you can try Comodo's Back up program.
read more here: http://backup.comodo.com/
I'm currently using it, and yes it's a good free program.

I found the backup utility On Windows XP and I am running it right now, it seems to be able to do the job that I want. I'm also going to check out Comodo and see what that has to offer. Thanks for the advice guys.

Can XP schedule an arbitrary command to be run at a specific time? If so, use rsync compiled for Windows. Something like...

rsync -av C:\ Z:\

Where Z: is your backup drive. If you don't specify any hostnames then rsync uses local file systems only.
