TODAY!!! ![]() On Dr. 90210 I have seen a lot of girls who have these big ol' fairy tattoos or something that was 'au currant' back in the day....they got them at 18/19 and now at 30 they've decided it's not for them..... they come back for tons of laser treatments and pay a killing.... it's starting to happen a lot now actually....I also read in a magazine about tattooed women who regret their tattoos years later....either when they get "real" careers and a visible tattoo is not professional for the work environment or once again, when they come of age and realize they did this as part of a phase happens more than we think |

Seems every chick has a fucking dumb tat of some sort nowadays.
You see content posted on here and you think she's almost perfect, then you get a shot of the tramp stamp or something and it just looks fucking terrible... |

I don't get tattoos. I really don't. If I'm going to mark my body with ink for the rest of my fucking life, it had better be something I'm going to believe in and be proud of until the day I die. The only thing I'll be a part of until the day I die is the US Marines, and I don't have a Marine tattoo (although I have considered it).
My friend has a big tattoo on his arm. He got it when he was twenty and now he's forty-five. It looks ugly, like a big blob of color on his arm. The best one is a tramp stamp. Why would any woman get a tattoo that says "I am a tramp".

Whay would you do a tattoo on their actual heart? That seems too extreme and painful....Is there a significance to it?

well the second part of his post was stating that tatoos are much more common now than they were in older generations and that's how I understood it

I have one and I swore I'd never do that. It's a memorial tatoo though, which I think is way different. Like Rochard said, it's gotta be something that means the world to you and you'll be proud of the rest of your life or its a no go. I can do without butterflies, roses, that sort of thing and the tramp stamps absolutely suck! I thought they were cool about 5 years ago and that's the point. Tramp stamps are a fad most will regret later.

However...I know many other people that fit into that "whim" category....in college i knew so many people who got tattoos "cuz they were 18 and they could" because they were "drunk one night" were "in Vegas and it just seemed like the thing to do" or just had some tattoos you just see and you're like "you know this person is not gonna want this in 30 years" These are the ones I expect at the laser surgery office at 30, 40 and 50 know what I mean? ;) |

Tats are personal, mostly each piece has a certain meaning. I like tats but don't like those standard tats from the book.

Precisely what I thought - it reminds me of a bad attempt at Jolie's "Quod me nutrit me destruit" text.
Though I am curious what those here think of as a "good" tattoo, and why a location would automatically mean it's a poor tattoo choice?

Some timeless tattoos will endure. Some tramp stamps will seem pretty funny on your grandma. Like anything, fads and trends cycle through. Anything permanent runs the risk of looking corny 20 years down the road.
But if you look at the history of it, from tradition and right of passage in tribal cultures, to Army and jailhouse tats, to bikers and rebels, to everyone and their mom, you'll see that people are more open to them. The shock value has worn off. There is little shock value left in anything these days this side of cakefarts and 2girls1cup. The danger, pain, chance of infection and general crudeness of early tattoos has been cleaned up, so now they aren't so much associated with the dangerous, tough rebel anymore. It's a new liberating buzz. And if you really, really don't like it, there are entire industries out there devoted to getting them removed. It's not cheap or easy, but what in life is. But as the internet, cable tv, satellite radio, the adult industry, or most other industries around the world are showing, you'll see the whole thing get more granular. Tattoos won't go "out of style" as a whole. Some of them will. Some new methods will appear. New artists will change the style. New inks will change the look. There will be new technology that allows less permanent tattoos. Body painting, sunless tanning, and other methods will continue to blur the lines between what we picture as "classic". But it will keep breaking down into more specific niches. And each niche will have their own specific thoughts, directions, and reasons behind what they do. I'm a timeless guy. I like beautiful women with the skin they came in. I've seen some tattoos age with their canvasses...and in most cases, I wish I hadn't. But thankfully, everyone gets to choose for themselves. ![]()

Yes, the tattoo you got at 18, might not be what you want at 30, and the tattoo you got at 30 you might not like at 45, our interests evolve during our lifetime.
Also tatts are mainstream now...a sure sign it is no longer cool. I got one tattoo, and luckily I was talked out of getting anymore. Once you get ink in your bloodstream it is very addictive. There is a company in NY that has filed a patent, tattoos with removable ink. It was on the news 2 weeks ago. |

I do know what you mean and have always been very vocal about making sure a tattoo is a right choice for people when asked. I used to bartend and my tattoos were visible and poeple ALL THE TIME used to ask me for recommendations and advice on the subject. There was many times I have said to someone I think you should really think about your choice of material or placement. I dont think that they are for everyone. I dont think "but its cute and my so and so has one" is a good idea to permanently mark your body. I also felt really good about referring them to my friend that tattoos and not just because she is my friend. But I do know in that shop that if they think that the tattoo and placement is a bad choice (as far as being able to stand the test of time and still look good in 10 years) they will inform the customer and if it means they lose the booking and the money they don't care.

A good tattoo IMO is something that has meaning to you, something that works with the area of the body you want to tattoo it as far as shape and size, something that you have given more than 10 seconds of thought too. As far as body placement I think that sometimes affects women more than men. I don't think its a good idea to get a bikini like or that area tattoo if you want to have kids and you don't know how pregnancy will affect your body. Anyone considering a tattoo should consider what parts of their body is going to be most affected by the passage of time. I have seen some amazing chest pieces on girls but personally I would never get a chest piece or a tattoo on my breasts. I am no where near big chested but large or small gravity is not your friend.

true, but in western societies adorning yourself with visible tattoos is just about the dumbest thing a young person can do from an economic standpoint because it will limit access to the higher echelons of socio-economic status, i.e. you won't see many tattoos in: academia, ivy league universities medicine wall street CEOs of any company high fashion and serious mainstream business yes you can have visible tatts and drive a tow truck, and maybe one day own the towing service, but if you have visible tatts and apply for the CEO or high end marketing job you will be passed over in favor of an equally qualified person without visible tatts. even porn models will get more work WITHOUT tatts. tatts will rarely add beauty, there is a reason people like to look at met-art girls. |
