Do you get Migraines???

Ive just been diagnosed as having a migraine. I have a really severe headache in the left side of my forehead (my left) going down as far as my left eye (just to the top of it). Ive never had a headache so severe, and I get this shit daily and have done for the last week and a half. It defo stops me in my tracks. It feels like my head is about to explode and its a real throbbing kind of pain.

But...I dont get the other stuff associated with migraines (sickness, not liking bright lights, halos, double vision etc etc).

So Im hoping to find out if anyone here gets a migraine, without all the other symptons?

Ive had an eye test, and my eyes are fine. I had a neurological exam (they took my blood pressure, looked at my teethe (???) and hit my knees and elbows with that little hammer, plus she looked at my eyes) and that was fine.

Also headache tablets dont work that well. I usually take 2 tablets and a headache goes in 45 mins. With this I take 4 and its almost gone after 3-4 hours.

Had something similar except I was getting blurred vision that would last from 5 to 45 min or so. Was diagnosed as having migraines without pain( yes there is such a thing-google it if you don't believe me)
Simple solution was one baby aspirin per day and some vitamins. Have not had any for several years now.

Im in the UK so I pay like $14 for my perscriptions whatever the cost. Ill Google that for the UK brand name and ask my doc about it. US names for meds are often different to the UK name, but thanks for that tip!

The kind of migraines I get wouldn't even allow me to type out your post. They put me out of commission in a major way. I can sometimes lessen the blow if I load up on meds at the first signs of it coming. For me the signs are silver flashes across my line of vision and being unable to even read letters clearly. It is insane!

Did they call that a migraine? Im trying to see if you can get migraines without all the symptons.

Migraines seem to be (from Googling) when a part of the brain is starved of blood supply. That may be wrong. Remember im Googling this with a killer headache, I can hardly think straight. Im only here now as my head is taking a break and im actually loving not having a headache.

Thats what Im thinking. Every time I hear someone talk about Migraines, they cant cope and stay in bed. And they always get some kind of other sympton, like your getting silver flashes.

Im worried that ive been mis-diagnosed and that the Dr is missing something else.

This is why I want to find someone else without all the lights and halos and flashes. To show that its possible to get a migraine without that.

I also get migraines. I don't have the nausea or blurred vision, just the sensitivity to light. A weather front passing thru will usually be enough to start one, but not always.
They can be brutal at times. I don't usually take meds for it, rest and ibuprofen if it's really bad.

I forgot to mention noise...noise can esp be irritating when I have an episode.

This was a neuroligist and yes he called it a "migrane with out the pain".
The wikipedia page explains it well enough for me.

Thanks, that actually helps me more than youd know. It shows that I can have a migraine without all the symptons. You didnt get pain, Im getting pain but no lights.

Actually, now I dont have a headache, I was wrong about the cause:

"A migraine is caused by abnormal brain activity, which is triggered by stress, food, or some other factor. The exact chain of events is not known. However, it seems to involve various nerve pathways and chemicals in the brain. These changes affect the flow of blood in the brain and surrounding membranes."

Great.
The idea behind the baby aspirin was to act as a blood thinner.

I've had them for years... they come in periods and stay for 6 weeks or so. Mine are known as cluster migraines. I usually take a percocet when I first feel it coming, and if it gets really bad I give myself an Imitrex injection, but...

I heard about people getting Botox for migraines, so I talked to my wife's plastic surgeon about it. Last May I had a migraine cluster come on, and I went and had Botox. Within a couple of days the headaches were gone. Then, in October I had another series and went back to the doc who gave me another vile of Botox... headaches were once again gone in a couple of days.

Now, I have gone over 15 years having these headaches, and the last two series' were gone within days. I'll be getting Botox every time from now on...

I used to get them when i was younger. Had them through most of my high school days.

Used to floor me for days at a time. Hate it!

Seems to have just faded out now though, been a couple of years maybe since my last one. Hope they do stop altogether now and i can't think of much worse things to be honest...

There are two types of simple migraines - with aura and without aura. It sounds like you have the second one.

Aspirin usually helps if you drink a lot of water with it.

If youre using a CRT monitor, make damn sure you switch to LCD.

When i have sinus infections they are really bad. One time the doctor gave me Tylenol with Codein because it was so bad with all that sinus pressure in my head.
I also tent to get them if I was into really cold weather from a warm office or house.
Usually three Advil will do it if I get them.
Also try Advil gel because it is in liquid form it goes to work in your system very quickly and helps the migraine as all the medication attacks the headache at once instead of slowly being broken down like regular tablets.

Not sure where you live but here are a few good links from the advil website in regarsd to migraines.
