klm: 8 crash records since 1950

http://www.airdisaster.com/cgi-bin/a...tch+Airline s

turkish airlines: 13 crash records since 1959

onar air: 7 incendents since 2006

I think we can safely say that price stunters on international flights to Turkey arent the safest, Im sure you still remember this

Onur Air were temporarily suspended from taking off or landing in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany for alleged safety breaches and the alleged need to tighten security standards. The airline denies all allegations, but 40,000 passengers were left grounded as a result. Talks were held with the Dutch aviation authorities

What you wrote about dutch airlines is nonsense, Turkish Airlines has a crash record thats higher then all dutch airlines together - that says something imho.

Useless comment, don't talk if you don't know what your talking about...... this aircraft is a 737-800 and there is no doubt about it, it has winglets, the 737-800 is the only model that has them. This is one of the latest B737 models.

How can a 737-800 use "2nd hand b or c graded parts"? Most of them didn't even go thruw a C-check because they don't have enough flight hours yet.

To grumpy:

KLM does not have the most crashes, they infact have a good safety record. I think you are confusing the fact that KLM caused the crash with the most fatalities wich was in Tenerife when a KLM captain started take-off without permission and hit another aircraft wich was still on the runway, both aircraft where B747 Jumbo Jets.
So KLM = good safety record but crash with most fatalities.

You can turn even an accident to a racial shit? People like You're shame of humanity, did You even care about those 9 deaths and 50 wounded people rather then Turk Bashing?

Well i have been hearing the same here in Belgium but i'm 99% sure this isn't what happened. This was a scheduled flight with IFR flight plan so the aircraft took on enough kerosene to reach his destination + alternative + 30 Min's flight time which is the standard rule.

Facts: - Tail struck ground first - the aircraft didn't slide allot, it "dropped" onto terrain - eye witnesses report it having an abnormal "pitch up" attitude

Two possible scenarios from a pilots point of view:

A - The aircraft was very low on airspeed on final approach and started to stall due to pilots failure to keep enough airspeed, pilots tried to recover the stall but didn't have enough altitude. In this case it's a pilot error. I have my doubts about this scenario because the one engine i saw in the news pics and clips still had his basic structure and all blades so i doubt it was still running when it hit the ground else it would have destroyed the blades and the basic structure when the blades disintegrate on impact.

B - The aircraft suffered a loss of engine power, this can have many causes but again, i don't think running out of fuel is one of them. This would explain the extreme pitch up attitude, when you loose airspeed you have to add energy to keep flying, you add this energy by pitching the nose up but this also means you have to take the energy somewhere and this energy comes from the airspeed. So nose up -> slower descent but loss of airspeed -> finally you stall and drop. Also the aircraft crashed into a muddy field which i personally think was a pilots choice, so a controlled crash because the aircraft turned away from it's normal approach path to reach this field. The pilots never called out an emergency according to news reports, this would also indicate to me they had enough fuel else they would have asked for an emergency landing due to fuel starvation.

Here is an update:

I just heard the ATC tapes with 1951 before and after the crash. All was going normal, when center handed of 1951 to approach the pilot asked if it was ok for him to hold speed, this indicates that they didn't have any problem at all, the pilot knows what speed they are doing and the speed was good for approach, the controller approved it.
I also heard someone who survived the crash saying the aircraft started to shake and second after that it started to plunge to the ground, to me this indicates it suffered an engine failure and at this altitude the pilots couldn't recover from it.

I thought A as well - ppl stated it literally fell out of the air it stalled not enough speed, but it wasnt that, one guy one dutch radio said it shaked horribly then 10 secs later crashed, engine failure during landing would result in this for sure, it would tip one wing maybe, shame noone has video, but theyll find out

what bothers me is that the Turkish authorities stated minor injuries while they removed the first bodybags - I really feel sorry for all those ppl

comes to mind they do have a huge amount of seagulls on that landing strip, its a real problem, if the same thing happened as the NY plane last month then that would explain more

what bothers me is that the Turkish authorities stated minor injuries while they removed the first bodybags - I really feel sorry for all those ppl

comes to mind they do have a huge amount of seagulls on that landing strip, its a real problem, if the same thing happened as the NY plane last month then that would explain more
I did a few appraoches myself to the "polderbaan" and indeed they have a problem with birds overthere. If i recall correct out of my head the polderbaan is 18R and i sure did see alot of birds there. i also did some approaches to the kaagbaan, i think that's 06 and they don't have that problem overthere but wheren't they making plans to shut down the porlderbaan and use 18C instead?

If discovery made a statement like this they should read up on fuel tanks and location of them
Safest is the tail section or the seats right after the flight deck.

polderbaan is 18r-36l yes

and yes youre right they want that one closed, mainly cause the noiselevel is way way too much, but Schiphol is stuck it has to expend but also has to comply with rules and due to the flighttax it got a big hit in the face with a lot less turnover as well

you dont have to be a tech guy to understand that sitting next to 26.025 liters of fuel isnt the safest place

Well from an airliners economic view polderbaan is a big no no :-)
I used to fly City Bird's MD-11 up there (OO-CTB) and we had to do ILS to polderbaan almost every time. Even when i asked for another approach they usually declined it..... although they allowed allot of KLM aircraft another runway when they asked.... heh, Dutch controllers :-)
Anyway, the taxi out from that runway is fuel and time consuming.... a bit over the edge if you ask me. Most of the time we had the papers ready and cockpit prepared for crew change before we where half way to the gate haha.

I can't even imagine how terrifying it must be to experience something like that on a commercial flight.
