How many of you are bored with this webmaster lifestyle?

raises hand.

obviously I mean those self employed, working from their own house, and not the content shooters etc..

I think doing this thing has MANY benefits but it CAN get boring after a while as well.... and make you feel burned out.
Personally, I feel I need a new challenge in life. Anyone feels the same, at least sometimes?

discuss

It definitely gets boring. It really helps to start up new projects and ideas... although that also pulls away from your focus which can lead to less money. It's a Catch-22, need to find balance.

10 years running now, don't recall being bored very often. Then again I prefer the quiet and not having to work for someone else under a supervisor who is invariably a moron and a pack of mostly idiots for coworkers. Okay I did enjoy some of the many jobs I had over the years but I wouldn't say I miss it exactly.

You just have to break up the monotony yourself. Last year I retookup mountain biking and long walks, this year I shaved off my hair and grew a goatee. It's all about variety man. Variety. :D

Boring compared to say a rock star or something like that but in comparison to say office jobs or factory jobs, I'd say its much more interesting. I recommend to switch things up now and again and not to keep doing the same old thing day in and day out. Try your hand at different income streams, maybe learn a new programming language. There is tons of different shit to do in the online world.

I love my lifestyle

Then again it's nicely split between work, activities I enjoy, relaxing, hanging out with friends, travelling, etc.

Of course you get bored once and a while, but then you think about all the people out there busting their ass for a less than half what the average wm makes...and the boredom slips away.

I work a full time regular job and I blog part-time at the moment. I find that balance between working for someone else and working for yourself helps keep things in perspective. When I'm working at my job, I'm reminded how nice it is to work for myself.

I was bored with this and opened a deli. It was much more work for even less return.

Securing office space outside of the house was the best thing I ever did, and that's where I'm at now.

This is my 11th year. It goes in burnout waves. When you get burned out, you gotta shake it up a bit. Do something to shake the cobwebs out. Maybe drastic.

Exactly right.

I am a creative person, so I always am thinking and working up new ideas on my white board. I am not a 'maintanence' type of guy. I like building something new, and seeing it take off, and once the money starts rolling in I tend to lose interest and want to do something else.

A lot ideas are abandoned. Not because they are not good, but because they are not cost effective. There are only so many hours in a day. In the Michigan winter, I do not mind working more. But in the warmer months... I would rather be out on the SeaDoo or playing basketball, golfing, whatever.

The point being, I like working 8 hour day max. in warmer months.

If I was never working on new projects, or ideas. I would be very very bored, and would not enjoy my work so much. So I can see where you are coming from.

It is boring now because it is winter, all i know is when summer hits and it is +30C out and everyone is stuck in their office and i am sitting on a patio having a drink or shooting some hoops it sure all comes into perspective.

it def does get boring though once and a while. will i ever leave the webmaster life? no i will not. it is apart of my life and goals now.

maybe you need a re location i know that has more to do with my boredom then the job itself. imagine living beachfront sitting on your laptop sitting on margaritas. thats what im talking about.

If you're bored, go to the gym every morning and work out...Then you'll be nice and tired and you can relax for the rest of the day...I go five days a week...the only reason I didn't go today (Friday) is because I went twice on Thursday doing running in the morning and yoga in the evening.

I am very very bored of this job, plus the biz is not so profitable as it was in 2002...

it's 10,000 times easier to make money on mainstream..

u can make 5k per month in mainstream, by working 2 hours per day..

while in adult, 95% in this forum make less than 5k per month, and work 12 hours per day...

new projects, but it's still the same biz, the same internet boring stuff, the same sitting in your house and waking up at 1pm if you want but it only fucks up your life

not everyone likes the quiet all the time.. but yeah, i agree, working for an idiot boss would be a nightmare.... also, I can't imagine getting up at 6-7 am and putting on a suit and driving 1 hour in traffic to an office.... NEVER EVER!

doesn't make sense to rent an office and pay for it, if you can work from your own place for free.. Ah yeah, I forgot, everyone is a playa, saving money is never important.

hardly new ideas here. Lots of stuff which is maintanence or even auto-pilot. I'll try to do more completely autopilot stuff and forget about the maintance-required stuff and disappear and do something else I think.

^^^ thnking about doing that

anyway, the last year ive been very bored and it got really bad the last several months, almost hating it, along with just being extremely depressed.
Ive seen the light a few days ago, i noticed i stood still in life.
In terms of doing this work is that i only did whats absolutely necessary every day (1-2 hours) and do nothing the rest of the day. I didnt get any step further. So yesterday i worked nearly 12 hours total, gonna see how this works out. Today ive got the same state of mind although some friends with a day off visited me for a while, other than that ive kept working all day and its a satisfying feeling.. im gonna keep this up.

Maybe you see people on their lunch breaks or after work having a beer and feel you are missing out.

If you had lived that life you wouldn't feel that way, believe me.

Travel, not for the sake of traveling, but perhaps with the idea of opening a business somewhere, you'll very quickly integrate a tight knit expat community.

If you think webmastering fucks your life you have no idea what awaits in the 9-5 world...

Did I say 10 years? I meant over 11. Time flies when you're loving life too much to be bored.

Seriously the list of reasons is a mile long, but includes:
-I get up when I want.
-Drink all the coffee I want, at the computer or not.
-I get the tunes going on the kitchen stereo, most workplaces/offices don't allow it and when they do no one can agree on what kind of music to play. At home it's my tunes all the time.
-Eat when I want.
-Private bathroom, not shared with 20 or 30 other slobs. Hit the throne whenever the urge hits, no worries about leaving stink for your coworkers.
-Work as much or as little as you want. Nice day out? Shut it the hell down and get out there and enjoy it.
-Take a vacation whenever you want. Need 3 weeks off next month, take it. Your websites aren't going anywhere. Can always take a laptop with you if you're that married to your work. Me, when I vacash I do it 100%.
-Keep 100% of the profits, after expenses of course.
-Want a raise? Give yourself one -- do a little more work, promote a little harder, make a few more sales, whatever, and boom... the checks come. On the web it can be that simple.
-Need a nap? Go lay down.
-work naked!

Seriously I don't know how some people let themselves get bored with those kinds of perks. Beats the hell out of working for someone else, and very few bosses out there allow their employees that kind of leeway. (I'm sure some do)

I can also add to your list:
-making 5x the average income
-no travel to work time
-not having to work for some other muppet
-Working 3hrs a day and getting payed for 8+

And my favorite has to be the fact I can pick up my laptop, jump on a plan and fly to another country nearby and do the same thing, but from a different location.

I sometimes miss the coworker socialising, and my wife complains I'm virtually a hermit, but I can't imagine ever going back to a 9-5 job.

One disadvantage of less varied human contact over the past 13 years is that my immune system isn't as strong as it probably should be. Once my daughter went to child care I started getting everything she did.

-not having to work for some other muppet
-Working 3hrs a day and getting payed for 8+

And my favorite has to be the fact I can pick up my laptop, jump on a plan and fly to another country nearby and do the same thing, but from a different location.

-N
TY.

I knew there was more. I can't count all the cash I've saved over the years on car insurance and gas and wear and tear on the vehicles etc, not having to drive to work. That alone is huge.
Far higher income, check.

"-Working 3hrs a day and getting payed for 8+"

Actually it's 3 hrs a day but get paid for 24. Like I said, your websites don't stop working for you just because you're not sitting at the computer or you're sleeping.

No... Not 'Bored'... But not excited either...

I hit 'Thirty Ten' this year... And I have been involved in Adult all my life...
Not 'online' (obviously) as it didnt exist back then, but now its simply the format of the biz...

Still... Only Ten more years or so... Then I retire... Not too shabby

I guess if I had been a policeman, a laywer, a teacher... Anything really... Id prob feel the same !

Most if not all my friends are self employed and work online, or are employees for adult companies. There is plenty of socializing to be had

I think that's what everyone needs, including me. I don't HATE what I do, or am I bored with it.. I just find myself unmotivated a lot.

Doesn't help that my friends think I don't work even though I make more than them, and feel the need to come over whenever they want and say "oh whatever, you can stop 'working' for a little bit."

My biggest dilemma today was salmon or shrimp for dinner. We had both.
Post of the thread right there.

I think I would be more productive if I had an office away from the house.

u can make 5k per month in mainstream, by working 2 hours per day..

while in adult, 95% in this forum make less than 5k per month, and work 12 hours per day...

He doesn't ask if You are bored from building adult sites, He asks if You get bored from this webmaster life style, webmasters are the people who are building websites for any kind of content no matter adult or Mainstream You know ;)

Why did I come work for AFF?

50% because sales aren't what they used to be.
50% because I was bored and lost my motivation after working from home for 10 years.

I kind of went bored out of my mind being in the home office all the time. I wanted a change.

I still have my own 6 figure yearly traffic network that I can always go back to it anytime and it makes for a nice security blanket.

But for the time being I like the "structure" of having a "real job". Plus I'm paid extremely well and I like the people I work with. So for now I'm happy doing this.

I like that when I go to bed now, I'm actually tired and looking forward to sleep.

Just my

I am getting bored/burned out after being an adult webmaster for the past ten years.
