Do you protect your computers and other equipment against theft?

Is it better to have a professional security company install and monitor your home or office or are there better ways of keeping your stuff from getting stolen?
Like I see these cables for computer equipment with locks but that seems adequate for honest thieves but the professional burglars will just cut through them or yank them out.

We now have Undercover loaded on all of our Macs.

http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/

My girlfriend manages about 50 Macbook Pros on a University campus and it is loaded on those as well. They've had two units go missing and both were tracked down with the software.

Most people aren't going to do this. Especially with the Macs. Unless you're adding more memory, hardware swaps aren't that easy.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to say this.
So in case you don't know, even million dollar homes get broken into in good neighborhoods.Try again.

Definitely true. But as I referenced, two of them went missing from her mobile lab and they were returned as a result of using this software. That's good enough for me.

Thanks for the suggestion but again sounds like you could catch the honest theives but I'm looking for something more like a bolt down type of thing.
I did find some lockers but they have cylinder locks, not very secure IMHO

1st, thieves that rob million dollar homes aren't the type that are interested in computers, but it also doesn't have to be some mansion gated community to be a safe neighborhood is my point...

After my house was robbed and totally ransacked this past January I finally got around to installing the motion detection IP cameras I already had but wasn't using. If anything moves while I'm gone then it will take pictures and send them immediately to my cellphone and my email so I can call my neighbor and the cops. My neighbor will be more than happy to shoot any intruder, she's crazy with a shotgun.
