Interesting experiment. It's great if you transfer large files, or edit video(not rendering).

It wouldn't help anyone that needs raw CPU power for things like 3D renders.

That is insane.

Those drives are going to run around $500 each... so that's $12k for the 6TB.
QX9775 are $1800 each.
Asus Z7S WS motherboard is $600.

You're easily looking at a $20k computer there, LOL.

In that configuration, I'd beg to differ.

Worth Every Fuckin' Penny!!!

You don't need that many drives though after 3 drives there are diminishing returns. 3 would be smokin hot and cheaper....

i wonder if he read the fine print about SSD cards... they have write limits, which makes it not a good investment for servers. yes, it fast but on a active server you'll be replace a drive every 3-4mons

Can you link an article to back up that claim. Not doubting you just will like to read it.

Thanks

It's true, flash memory has a finite number of guaranteed writes. In reality if you're using a current drive it's unlikely you'll ever reach that limit, since the memory controller remaps sectors to even out writes over the entire range of memory storage. You'd need to be writing at the absolute maximum speed for months or years on end before one sector reached its write limit.
