I got this in a reply to take down notice to a host:

Can you provide us with any of this information:

The number given to the product according to the public register .

For Legal Unit/ Copyright Holder of electronic editions/ computer programs/ data bases - Copy of the state registration. For Legal Unit/

Copyright Holder of video-materials ? distribution certificate (copy).

I thought in the United States (and some other countries), the moment a photograph is taken it is protected by Copyright laws.

Unless you attribute a Creative Commons license to a photo, no one is allowed to reproduce it without your express permission.

So why are they asking for this stuff??

thats weird I would have a lawyer take a look. if you got one. I use remove your content because it used to drive me nuts and not make my wife be around me. lol

that is bullshit - they are asking you for proof that you have registered the copyright with the Copyright office. you as the copyright owner are under no obligation to register your copyright - if you don't, it does mean you can't sue for statuatory damges which are much more than standard damages for infringements of copyright.

But they are still required to take down the infringing content when they receive a DMCA notification.

They are jerking your chain around some or you used wrong terminology in your DMCA.
You get a basic copyright when you produce the work, you can also file for a copyright on works which would allow you to collect damages in a court of law if you were violated. Looks like they are talking about the latter as an assumption.
