formating should never be an option thats the BestBuy Geek Squad and phone tech way of fixing things. see if there is an update driver for your wifi card and mouse.

If your windows registry get fucked up by bad spyware, don't get all holy grail on me and tell me your going to go into the registry and rip it out. Sometimes formatting is the ONLY solution, and sometimes people just don't have the patience to fuck around with the computer for half a day, a day a week just to fix one problem, it's a quick fix and it always works.

Agreed. I backup my files, 1 hour, use acronis and recreate the initial install from an image = 1,5 hour and as good as new!

You don't ever have to format. The only reason people need to format is because they don't take care of their computers.

I reformat my computer every few months because sometimes it gets filled with left over crap from installing and uninstalling. I have no virus protection or spyware protection, never have since 2004, yet I have no problems. Because I keep it clean and fresh.

hmm... "my mouse cursor will freeze, and then unfreeze, freeze again, and unfreeze"

so yea, can't possibly be a problem with a mouse, it's probably a hard drive problem

formatting seems to look like the laziest way of fixing your pc, but it does help most of the time..

i also said i do this as the 'last option', when the pc is still not fixed after i unplugged/plugged my hardwares (or reboot), or uninstalled any new softwares that i just installed

its a quick fix if you dont care about what you have on your system. i've recovered from a lot of crashes, virus, os currupts. formating is just the easy way out but if you want to know how to fix the problem and stop it from happening googling the problem helps. and if your registry is corrupt windows does have a registry repair that you can get to with the boot cd or booting to cmd prompt. windows keeps backup of the registry after every update so chance are one of those backups will be good.

a tech center or geeksquad wouldn't even bother exploring those options they'd just tell you to format. and yes this is one area i can get all holy grail on cause i can 95% of the time recover any computer from a crash or problem.

Thats what I was thinking.

The best way to solve this issue is one step at a time. If you try doing a bunch of things at once, you may end up fixing it, but you won't know what the problem was.

Does the problem still occur if you take the card out?
Go to the manufacturers website and check the faq's and forums to see if anyone else is expiriencing the same problem, there may already be a solution.

Sometimes, it may seem like its your new card thats causing issues, but it could be that piece of software you installed late last night and forgot about.

When problems occur, you should always scan for virii, spyware, malware ect.. as that could easily be the problem.

The hardware you bought could also be faulty. Are you able to try it in another computer without issue?

If all else fails, you should not have to format, hell, why not just go buy a new computer instead?
