Car guys ......
Is synthetic oil better that regular? Can you dive more miles with synthetic oil? I hear you can go 5,000 miles with synthetic oil. You know us girls sometimes get roped into spending more on stuff like oil changes, so I have been using synthetic oil for the last year.
So is synthetic oil the way too go or doesn't it matter? ![]() |

The best way to tell is to park your car in the garage with the garage door closed and leave the motor running. Sit in the car and close your eyes. The answer will come to you in a head rush.

Can't really hurt anything, but you are probably wasting money on it unless your vehicles engine calls for it. Your oil cap or owners manual will usually tell you EXACTLY what specification oil to use.

I just use what is recommended for my vehicle and as far as scheduled updates it is pretty easy to not get upsold etc. Plus I always find a coupon for the local jiffylube that I save for the use (typically 5 bucks off). It is almost always the same cost every few thousand miles give or take an oil or air filter.
Just remember if you feel your being taken ask to see or keep the parts they are going to replace. Show them to someone if you think its fishy after viewing them. Personally I have yet to be fucked over at the oil place nor has my wife.

Synthetic is better due to the fact that it remains on the walls of your cylinders which in the morning when you go to start your car will cause less tear where as non synthetic does not and causes more serious viscosity when you give it that initial start in the morning. It has many benefits.

It is better, it does let you drive longer also, your engine will thank you later.
Do you know which type of full synthetic they are using? It should be a quality one and not some cheap "synthetic". Mobil 5w30, 10w30, etc are a good line. There are higher quality fully synthetic oils such as amsoil, royal purple, red line, gc green/gold, etc. The filter is also just about as important as the oil itself, synthetic oil with a cheap fram filter won't help you much, you need a quality oil filter that flows more, lasts longer, etc. What year and model/make car do you have? I'll recommend the perfect oil/filter for it. |

Waste of money.
Just change your oil every three months or 5000 Km with a name brand oil and filter, A good filter is key cheap ones filter far less and do not go down to the micron count good filters do. I was a tech for over 15 year so take it for what its worth.

I'd go with whatever the book recommends, unless you're trying to squeeze every last HP out of a performance car or live in an area of temperature extremes. If you've got a commuter car and regularly change oil, you're wasting your money using synthetic, IMHO.

If your car was made for synthetic, use it. If not, don't. Yes, it is really that simple.

as otherp eople have mentioend, synthetic is better but you dont need to change your oil every 3000 miles. I believe a lot of hte owners manuals coming out these days say 5000 miles. If you are running "standard oil" Id change it every 4000 or 5000 miles, if you run full synthetic you can go 5000 - 7000 miles.
If you are going longer than 3000 miles it becomes more important however to check the level every now and again to make sure non leaked out or "burnt up"

depends on the car..the vette has synthetic oil however the car also has a pressurized oil system, chevy recommends 6k for each change however I've heard the 10-12k is okay. I think a normal car with real oil should be changed every 3K -bmb |
