Computer geeks. A little help please.
I have been getting a nv4_disp display driver error once in a while and tonight I guess it decided to take a dive. I found a place to download a new dll however, when I went to see where the file was located so I could overwrite it, I found it in six different folders . . . with two different file sizes (4k and 5k)
It has been a while but my first guess would be to put it in system32 folder, but the file there is 5.3k and my replacement file is only 3.1k Any ideas? TIA |

If it happened out of nowhere, I.E. you haven't installed anything remotely resembling a video driver of any sort right before you started receiving this error, I'd be willing to bet it's hardware problem posing as a software problem. Check and make sure the video card is not overheating... usually driver behavior is almost certainly to do with faulty hardware if you haven't been installing new drivers recently.

video drivers can be a huge pain to 'fix'. Just copying files into directories wont solve the problem (well it might, but its a bandaid solution.
Do you know what video card you have? You can try uninstalling it completely and let windows reinstall it for you. I would look into your card manufacturer as they may have a specific solution to your error

Could you post the specifics of your laptop? Manufacturer, model, etc?

NVIDIA is the control panel for setting monitor modes, so I presume that is the reason for that driver. When I plug my monitor directly to the laptop it works fine. I suspect my docking station is the underlying culprit here. |
