Just another day...post office, bank, saving a life...you know, the usual...

Didn't think about it at the time, but yea...

running around doing errands with kids a few days ago. And they see a carnival...so we head off to it.

We are waiting at the stoplight on the corner of a very busy road and these women with their kids that are standing next to us are yelling

'Get out of the street! Lady, get out.'

I look and there is this old woman pushing a cart, obviously not coherent and she is walking in the middle of a busy street with cars honking.

The light changes and these women walk across to the carnival with their kids and don't even help.

I have my daughter and her friend buddy up and cross to the carnival and wait on the other side while I go to the old woman in the middle of the street and help her to the sidewalk where we just came from. Cars are backed up.

She doesn't speak English, I try to find out where she is going. I walk behind her as she struggles to walk and push her cart down the sidewalk just to make sure she is okay.

Then all of a sudden she starts to veer off again and heads towards the other street that is even busier and goes down the curb between parked cars and starts walking into the oncoming traffic that way.

I run and grab her cart and her hand and get her back to the curb and onto the sidewalk. She is definitely at least 80, disoriented and it seems she had cataracts as well. I don't think she could see.

The carnival was actually a Los Angeles Police Department carnival outside their station so I called my daughter and her friend on their cell phone, tell them to go to one of the policemen over there so I can talk to them.

An officer gets on the phone, I tell them what is happening.

I walk behind this woman closely for about 2 more blocks to make sure she stays on the sidewalk and then 3 cops on motorcycles pull up and try to help her. I find a Hispanic man who speaks Spanish to her and she is looking for Ralph's food market. There isn't one for miles.

She obviously was disoriented and pretty much would have gotten hit by speeding traffic.

They took care of her and I ran back to the kids.

What bothered me the most were the other women with kids who just yelled at her to get out of the street, not even bothering to help this woman who obviously had no idea where she was. That was a good example for their kids to see how their parents handled that situation, not!

Anyway, I went back to my daughter and her friend and thanked them for helping and my daughter said, 'Yea, I am glad we helped save a life today.'

I guess that is what we did.

totaly unrelated,
every day I see the same crazy person walking down main talking to themself while swatting at invisible flys.

I often lament how this person has not walked into traffic before. I also wonder how long it will be before they do. Also, i'm kinda curious to know if I will be able to see it happen from my second story balcony.

Maybe I should follow them around and when the time is right, I'll just give him a good push.

I saved about two bums already in my life,

One was already getting blue as it was a tough winter and he was obviously unconcious, it was late night and I was with a couple friends, saw him laying on the ground, so I kicked him a bit to find out if he's just drunk, well he was almost dead and not just drunk, so I called him the EM and I guess he actually survived.

The other one, that was in the summer like three years ago, he ripped his skull as he fell drunk directly at the edge of this bank that was made out of metal in the middle of a really busy place, and in the middle of the day - NO ONE did anything, every idiot just drank his cofee and tried to pretend he didn't noticed it.

So I checked him out and it was not like he would be bleeding too much - how do you call it, from an open wein, so he was not in an immediate danger, so I just called EM...

First thing that happened - the local cops came to find out if it's not a false alarm!

Fuck you boneheads - 15 minutes wasted!

And then It took those motherfuckers exactly another 17 minutes to come there with their EM!

And the central was like 1,5 mile from there!

32 minutes - if he would have anything more serious he would be dead

I'm the king of bums, I'm their saviour, any bum wants money from me I tell them fuck you pal, I won't give you my money, but whenever I'll see you freezing your ass on the street, I'll save you!

That is an excellent opportunity for a "life lesson" for your daughter and her friend. We never realize how much our kids see and how it impacts them.

Helping the lady was just a natural instinct...

to have the kids kinda see it all play out... yea, I am happy they were part of an experience that shows life on a much bigger level than just a carnival.

Very cool! My dad pulled an unconscious woman out of a burning truck at the end of our street when I was around 13 or so. She'd been stung by a bee and was allergic. She lost control and went into a deep ditch, flipping the truck and catching it on fire. He was able to pull her out and away from the truck and she was released from the hospital a day or so later. Still makes me smile when I think about it.
