Sign of the time - EVIL ANGEL and VIVID VIDEO do deals with Videobox

the grand daddy of all gonzo porn companies Evil Angel, owned by the man most credit for inventing gonzo porn, John Stagliano aka Buttman, has partnered with Videobox.com, the most popular one price for all DVD download paysite on the Net. VIVID Video has done the same. Members of Videobox can now add Evil Angel and VIVID premium channels to their regular membership - 12 DVD's a month from both studios.

interesting.

Wonder how much the studios even get for that deal- a flat rate or some revenue share? I know my ten or so DVD titles that are on most of the popular VOD sites receive a fair amount of views. Even at hundreds of minutes or even 1000+ minutes a month watched I am only getting smallish checks each month from each site.

well some studios, those that got on the Net in time and understood our scene, don't have to 'sell out' with deals like this. But Evil Angel really did miss the boat on the Internet so they should be doing deals like this. It's not like they're just turning their library of DVD's over to Videobox. I suspect the deal is a revshare deal on those Premium Channels. Redlight District on the other hand just seems to be whoring out everything they own for license fees. Anybody know what RLD is charging for DVD licenses?

I heard that the number of Premium Channel upgrades overwhelmed CCBILL.

insane value at Videobox - i'm glad i'm not trying to sell hardcore gonzo porn - educated savvy surfers are all going to end up with memberships to either Videobox or Videosz - and networks like Brazzers, RealityKings, Bangbros, etc. Everybody else better be in some niche/fetish that those type of megasites/networks can't/don't do well.

That's interesting. So based on what you said- Videobox is so successful and has so many members that even the smallish percentage of their subscribers that purchased an upgrade to the premium channels recently was so many transactions that CCBill was overwhelmed by it? That's hard to believe, but I guess it shows that there is still money in VOD.

VideoBox isn't VOD. It's a monthly pay site but think of it like an adult DVD store that you get access to anything in their library with that one membership fee.

like Sly said, it's a one price all you can download DVD paysite - there are many of them, easy sites to put together if you have a couple hundred grand - i don't know how many members Videobox has but it's definitely in the tens of thousands. These new premium channels aren't VOD - it's an extra 17.95 per month to get 12 Evil Angel OR VIVID DVD's a month. I don't think Evil Angel or VIVID would do this if they're getting a good deal on the %. Videobox can do fairer and better deals with studios because they are not so reliant on affiliate traffic.

The problem with VOD is that no matter how much traffic they have you are competing with a thousand other producers/studios sharing the same surfers - pie gets sliced up pretty thin, plus you're making how much on a revshare basis? 25%? 30%? pretty small cut.

My guess is that their online sales have slumped - just like everyone else's - and they are looking to increase their revenue stream. Simple business to me.

At shows there is usually one night where I get pretty drunk and then I don't drink for the rest of the trip... LOL. I haven't been to a show in two years though... don't know when I will attend another one.

Out of all the 'all you can eat' DVD sites VB is the most successful one. These large studios would not have done a deal if their is no $$.

Also this is ironic

http://youporn.videobox.com/beta/tou...rowse&cid=2741

The largest Tube sites up sell is for content from Vivid.

The average payout from VOD sites to content owner is about 2 cents per min. So even at 1000 min you pay is 20. If you have small number of niche movies then go for PPV instead of PPM.

PPM is a volume game.
