I just got off the phone w/ Equifax, and every person I spoke with was from India.

What are your thoughts on major establishments that have access to your personal & financial data outsourcing their Call Centers to other countries?

Does anyone else see a National Security threat with this?

Which then brings to question... Why is my tube of toothpaste a security threat at airports, when all of my financial history is being sent to India?

Exactly, I wish there was some way for this exact comparison to be brought to the public eye and pushed as hard in the media as some other inconsequential things are!

The company will just say, "If the consumer doesn't agree with our business, they don't have to buy our product. Obviously we are making money, so people don't have a problem."

Usually I would more or less agree with this statement.

However, in Equifax's case you simply don't have a choice. If you participate in any way within modern society, they have your records. Every major financial corporation, and the government itself (child support enforcement, courts, etc.) have deals with this company to share credit information.

They are also supposedly "highly regulated" - but not in practice. One of the most slimy companies around imo.

Yeah but you DONT HAVE A CHOICE.. Its not like you can pick which credit reporting agency will deal with you, They all have it and it is open for anyone that wants to take it.

I recently applied for a product (against my better judgement) with Australia's biggest carrier and the 3 times I've called I've spoken with 3 different people that have thick Indian(ish) accents.

I guess it's important to save a buck in these "hard times" even though the company recently posted the largest corporate profit ever in Australian history.

FTC and Fair Credit Reporting Act since they reside outside the country? Argh!

This has been being done for years. they disassemble the data and assign a number to it, without revealing any "personal info" that is tied directly to you.. Usually this is the case.. however if it is leaving equifax hands to some 3rd world country and is fully viewable assembled then that is wrong.. Tax firms have been doing this for years without revealing personal info assembled to the data..
