Lulu's Tricky show review: good show but...

the man needs a sandwich. I couldn't stop focusing on the fact that he needs food because he'd already taken off his shirt by the beginning of song 2. check out his myspace link here. you'll see what i mean. onto the music...

Tricky known for being a trip hop master played mostly the new stuff from Knowle West Boy. the musicians are great. a lot of layered sound coming from 5 people, that always impresses me. the woman on bass kicks ass. the woman who sings with him, i think stole the show. what an amazing voice she has; very soulful and sultry. i can't find her name . on the cd itself he has 4 or 5 different woman doing vocals.

Tricky took a little break right before the second half. maybe a sandwich? i think not. he came back on stage and was wide awake, . then he rocked out and that was the show i wanted to see. there were definitely moments of Living Colour, the American funk metal band in his performance.

They came back for an encore at the end which got the crowd to its feet. The last song, Tricky told the crowd he wanted to be close to as many people as possible. He put his t-shirt back on and told the crowd to get their cell phones out. From the balcony all you could see was a small circle of people moving through a crowd. This circle would pause and a either a cell or a camera to take pics. That was cool.

So all in all, it was a good show. It was a fun night out.

wow, so many people came back to say that they didn't know who Tricky is. he's been around for a while, from the UK. he's known as a "trip hop" pioneer. he was with Massive Attack, which I loved.

Originally, Tricky was a member of the Wild Bunch, a Bristol-based rap troupe that eventually metamorphosed into Massive Attack during the early '90s. Tricky provided pivotal raps on Massive Attack's groundbreaking 1992 album, Blue Lines. The following year, he released his debut single,... I prefer Portishead for trip hop personally, but tricky and massive attack are also both pretty good.

Have you seen Massive Attack? I saw them in 2006 in Dallas, most amazing concert experience of my life. We were front row and they brought Elizabeth Fraser and Horace Andy <faint>
