can you run two different versions of Photoshop on one computer?

is there a way that I can keep my Photoshop CS intact and working on my computer if I install a newer version of PS?

I had that happen when I went to CS2.

But so far, I can open both installations that I have running now.

ok thanks for the replies - i'm gonna install the trial of CS4 and hope for the best. just got tired of doing PS tutorials and ending up at a dead end when the tutorial has steps using tools that aren't in CS Photoshop 8.

was doing this tutorial and then realized CS doesn't have the Smart Sharpen tool that's used in the tutorial to make this awesome looking poster

Thats quite possible. CS4 doesn't come with all the older plugins etc.. by default, it is posibble you have to download it from Adobe and install it. Same goes for the extract filter.

I've used two versions on one windows computer no problem.

Of course if you want the issue solved definitively, they should explore it on the least exciting episode of MYTHBUSTERS ever.
