Sometimes state-owned companies make sense (most of the time they don't). What pisses me off about this story though is the use of anti-competitive legislation by the big cable companies

It may seem that way but companies/industries regularly use legislation lobbying to create de facto monopolies. Sad to see this in the US since much of the reason developing countries are poor is because of the unchecked rise of monopolies. Monopolies usually stunt economic development in many emerging countries.
