Just finally watching the "No country for old men"
Haven't seen such a great piece of a hard boiled movie in a long time,
Every dialogue fits, every actor fits, the whole plot is put together so well Sheakespear would be envious, like a chess game. I have 30 minutes to finish, Josh Brolin is way excellent in the leading role, Javier Bardem is the ultimate psycho, and Tommy Lee Jones just can't disappoint. Old school movie, built on dialogue and plot instead of effects and cheap hype.

Oh man agreed, that movie was top notch. Josh Brolin did a great job with his character. I loved it when he walks into that boot shop with just a hospital smock on...LOL!!

Yes at first the ending pissed me off but I actually like the movie.. It's become one of those movies I can watch anytime it comes on.
The best scene in the movie IMO is with the old guy in the gas station and the coin.. "Do you know what the date is on this coin?" That entire scene is pretty damn deep. oh and LOL @ NoWhere's sig..

The last 30 minutes were a total shift.
I seriously think it's one of the best movies in a decade, probably the best movie from the Coen's Although they are one of the best movie makers in the decade or two. As I'm a huge fan of "Fargo" or "Millers' crossing" This was far beyond their style, far beyond a style of the genre, I wouldn't mind to call it a timeless masterpiece, and I saw it just once. I still have to set my mind straight about this movie, but it's a piece of art, will get more viewings in the future.

When you said "30 minutes to finish", I thought you would come back and say it was the worst movie you ever saw.

I take it back. It was OK. I only saw it once. In the theaters, and the commercials that got me to want to see the movie were way off. Maybe it's a good movie. Maybe all the pundits who suck each other's cocks and read way too much into shit while swallowing each other's bullshit are right. Who knows. Obviously, not me.

Too bad the movie was retarded and ended on an absolute nothing. it was like sitting through half of a weird dream and waking up too early.

it was a well made movie. everything was fantastic. other than the story itself. which made it all a big waste...
perfect contender for the braindead "it was weird, so it must be good" crowd of movie watchers... |

No Country For Old Men is nothing short of a masterpiece, slightly better than Fargo (and that's saying something). I saw it three times at the theaters. Carlos nailed this one. Filmmaking doesn't get any better. |

![]() Maybe instead of jumping the good old tried and true "it was weird, so it must me good" mindframe, how about you explain what made this story such a masterpiece, cause i don't see it at all. alli see is a shitload of Coenbrothers cockstroking over a movie that wasn't that great. ust because they are talented and have made amazing films, doe snot mean every piece they create is fantastic. case in point, No Country For Old Men.. |

Well, you keep referring to the story -- so if your biggest beef is its narrative, the fault lies with author Cormac McCarthy. But his novel was also popular and critically acclaimed, which explains why the Coens followed it closely.

I guess i'm a sucker for happy endings.
this movie made me sad, it's too realistic. I didn't want for the psycho to die but it should at least leave me in some kind of peace and not as restless as it did. I know that that is one of the things that makes it a master piece. |

I'll have to watch it again, what I enjoy in the Coen movies in particular are probably mainly:
- the taste for anti hero characters in their movies (like here the contrast of anyone from the "common" folks facing the killer, between the sheriff and his helper) - their sense for absurdity and black, sometimes extremely violent sense of humor - their movies are probably more realistic and down to earth than most viewers realize, although they sometimes do use a rather crazy way to put a story and don't always respect the "classic" plot

It pains me to say I'd probably rather watch the new Fast & Fast movie than this flick ever again, and I hear they even brought good ol' Vin Diesel back. So that's really saying something about how much I loved this movie....

its a great movie so long as you don't mind the lack of any character development, on screen action, or ending.
the acting was SPOT ON all the time, but that alone is not enough to carry a movie. |

You'd rather watch a mindless McMovie made by Hollywood hacks than a film with some substance, originality and powerhouse performances made by real filmmakers with a passion for the medium. It must really hurt some people to have to think. Don't worry, you're not alone. |

Normally this would be the type of movie I'd like. Dark story lines and twisted humor are definitely my thing. I was actually excited for this movie. I'll say it was well directed, and the actors did a great job of portraying the characters the way they should have. In most technical aspects it was a well done film. That doesn't detract from the fact that it was just fucking stupid. Incredibly fucking stupid. The only scene in the movie I can remember that I actually found interesting was Anton's conversation with the old clerk in the gas station. The Coens did an amazing job directing the movie, but the story was just, meh. Maybe their adaptation for the screenplay took something away from the book, I dunno. Fact is, I found the story was bland, the events which took place were bland, and even the outcome of the movie was pretty bland. Just because you saw something different, does not mean you saw something good. Most good strange movies leave you deeply pondering some point, or asking a lot of questions. Not this one. The plot wasn't all that original, didn't really pack much substance to it. All there was to know is that some hillbilly found and wanted to keep a bunch of money, and there's a crazy sociopathic killer trying to kill him and take it back and killing everyone in his path. He kills him, kills the wife because he said he would. WOW, DEEP. The only question left out there was, who exactly is this guy supposed to be? and what's got him so hellbent crazy? No real tips or subtle insights to leave you asking real questions. Those two about sum it up. The majority of the people who flocked to this movie are no better than those who flocked to your so called "McMovies". Most of the people talking it up know nothing more than this crazy guy with a strange pneumatic weapon was killing people, and lots of them without remorse. THAT'S LIKE SO WAY COOL! WE'RE SUCH INCREDIBLE FILM CONNOISSEURS FOR LOVING THIS WAY AWESOME WEIRD MOVIE! DIDN'T YOU HEAR ? SOME LIKE SUPER AWESOME DIRECTORS WHOSE NAME I DON'T REMEMBER DID IT, IT'S GOT TO BE GOOD! Don't get me wrong, I really like the Coen brother's work, I just don't like this particular movie. I think they should stick to what they do best, this suit doesn't fit them so well in my opinion. I'm feeling like pulling out my Hudsucker Proxy VHS just to replenish my faith... I wrote way too much when i could have just said one more time. The movie was stupid... |

The depth of the subtext in this movie is about on par with the kiddie end of the swimming pool. No, I'm totally wrong, this is the most awe inspiring movie of our time. No film has ever captured the raw nihilistic nature of fate, destiny, and the human condition on this level ever. I'm sure the story will be studied as a literary classic for centuries to come. Or not... |

Like I said, I don't cast pearls before swine. I have my interpretation, the critics have theirs, the filmmakers have theirs. That's the thing about a film built from an original premise, it can be deconstructed and analysed in more than one way. If you're truly interested in what the film meant beyond a retarded recounting of the plot then go read some reviews. But you're not. You didn't like it because you didn't understand it. Fine. You probably don't understand much beyond the superficiality of films like Hannah Montana and the Fast and the Furious. But just because you didn't get anything out of it doesn't mean that others didn't. |

I saw him in some Spanish movie long time ago, excellent actor, would never expect him being such a great villain though, the appearance (as I read on IMDB they chose the haircut according to a picture of some brothel patron from the wild west..), the voice, the intensity, the air pistol - excellent. Definitely one of the most intense villain characters in the movie history, time will confirm. Maybe the bad guy image will stick with him in his future Hollywood career, as it did with guys like Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper or Michael Wincott.
