Memory for core intel i7 - what should I get

Im doing the last research before getting my new box:

A few questions...

Is Corsair the memory brand to focus on ?

Why should I buy 2000 Mhz instead of 1600 Mhz except that it's more expensive, is the performance noticable if choosing that one ?

That's all for now

The main thing for that processor is that the memory is 'Tri Channel' so you need to buy three sticks of matching size (the older systems use dual channel).

Secondly, the performance difference between 1600MHz to 2000MHz will NOT be noticeable to most people. You're talking about maybe 5% difference at MOST.

Corsair is a good brand. So is Crucial. There are others, but almost any mainstream brand that has any kind of warranty will be fine.

Aha, that explains why I'm seeing a lot of systems with 6GB RAM as part of the specs. I thought it was a slightly odd figure, but it makes sense now.

Yes, the Cosair Dominator is the way to go. If you have a 920 or 940 I do not believe they can go higher than 1066Mhz
They are locked and well, when I built mine there was no way to circumvent it at the time, havnet really check since then, i got mine back in December.

965 extreme's take the stuff, but you have to overclock it, they are all 1066Mhz base and jst are about to go to those specified
levels.

Now dont get me wrwong, you can push the clock speed up on the 920 and 940 by overclocking the cpu, and probably get up to the 1600Mhz range. BTW 1600Mhz bandwidth = 38.4GB/s. compared to 25,6gb at 1066

Dont bother going higher than 1600 if you dont have a 965 extreme.

get corsair dominators 1600 6gb kit... i got 920 easily clocked to 3.8ghz with memory at 1600

btw, 965 is a complete waist of money, 920's clock EXTREMELY well for $700 less

6gb only if running in 64 bit, or plan too, in 32 bit xp or vista, go wit the 1gb * 3

Advice, I am running vista 64 bit, hate it, cant stand vista... im going back to XP 32 bit..
The loss of ram I don think is important at this time

Here's mine

Works great and allows a solid overclock.
