What kinds of security or anti-theft devices do you have on your car?

If any. I know some people use nothing and hope for the best. A few people I know can't say with any certainty whether or not they even lock their car doors every time.

Me, I've had a 3-point electronic immobilizer installed in the vehicles I've owned in the past 4 years. These are not factory immobilizers that are mostly 2-point. The 3-point ones are apparently much harder to circumvent.

But that's pretty much it. The device prevents theft but it does nothing against break-ins, theft, damage, etc.

Anyone still using The Club or other steering wheel lock?

Locking gas cap?

Why do you use what you use, specifically what features if you're using a car alarm?

I build a shut off between battery and starter with a relay that is up under the dash with a low volt bypass for system memory.

Not obviously visible from under hood or inside car and because its home made not something standard that someone would know to look for.

All my expensive cars are in my secured garage with alarm and security will be automatically called if the alarm goes off. And all my cars have class 4 alarm which means it has a GPS locator in it. I can see where my car is online so if it gets stolen and transported to East-Europe, I can follow it I also get a call from the car-alarm company if something happens with my cars (alarm goes off, dead battery etc). The membership of the car-alarm is like 30 bucks per car per month but it's worth it in my opinion.

None. My car is insured. If they snag it, I'll just get a new one.

My house on the other hand has two different alarm systems, both tweaked by myself. And a dog.

I'm not concerned about material things. My daughter, well, that's another story. No one is sneaking in while I'm sleeping and snatching her. Hell no.

Can someone explain why the horn has to go off when you set it.

I hate it when my neighbors come home at three in the morning and the horn goes
off when they set the alarm or when I'm sitting in my car in a parking lot and the horn blows next to me as someone walks up to their car.

Does it really have to work like that?

Aren't your premiums alot higher not having an alarm?

The brand of immobilizer I have is pretty good though. Here in Manitoba if you have one installed you get a discount on your insurance premiums. From what I've heard about it not one vehicle with one of these installed has been stolen so far.

Anyone have a car alarm with the "warn away" feature? (the non-horn one, there's one that just beeps loudly like a partial blurb of a cop siren)

I'm like Rochard. I don't give a shit about the vehicles, though they all have factory systems.

I'm more concerned with the house. Which now has video surveillance and an ADT system.

Hopefully you never leave your daughter in your car while you run in the store for a pack of smokes.

Saying "I just have insurance so who cares" is fine except for the fact that due to the overwhelming amounts of car thefts and insurance claims (largely by people who refuse to protect their vehicles properly) everyone's insurance rates keep going up and up.

you think if someone wants to steal your car they cant do it? hell, if its a newer car with a computer chip in the key and they steal it they are probably going to just get a key made and your alarm system isnt going to do shit to stop them.

Thanks, I think I can get the gist of it. If not my sister in law is dutch.

I'll see if any local companies here offer anything as comprehensive as that.

It's not an alarm system as I've said already. I have an electronic immobilizer, and yes apparently no one that has one has had their vehicle stolen yet. This comes from MPIC, our government-run insurer here in Manitoba.

I've had two attempts made on my car in the past 2 years, both failed. That is why I'm interested in adding an alarm to the vehicle, because theft attempts can leave small amounts of damage.

You sound like you think it's better to just do nothing and let the theives steal it if they want because you think it's hopeless? I say different.

Nothing, it's not exactly new and it also consumes too much gas to to attract any average EU thief.

I don't know about EU thieves but here in Winnipeg most of the thieves steal cars just for kicks, for joy-riding, transportation, or to commit some other crime. This comes straight from the Wpg Police website: http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/TakeAction/auto_theft.stm
