I eat tons of junk food but I still have good cholesterol

These are my results from Oct2008

HDL 75 (dr even wrote "excellent" next to the result!)
LDL 116 H
Cholesterol 201 H

Also, I am UNDER the average weight for my height, I am NOT overweight.

But I have gone through phases where I ate 1 gallon of ice cream in one day or sometimes 2 days, eaten In N Out cheeseburgers 4x a week, Animal style fries which have loads of calories and tons of cheese and rich creamy sauce... I also eat tons of chips, chocolate. I LOVE cheese, I eat everything cheesy.

I just finished eating a shortbread cookie container which has 32 cookies in like 3 days... on the label it said 2 cookies = 1 serving but I probably ate like 15 cookies in one day...

I haven't even exercised recently whatsoever...

So how come my cholesterol is still low and my HDL is considered good (Dr wrote "EXCELLENT" next to it) and I am at UNDER my ideal weight.

Does it mean that I am just blessed. And I'm not a kid either. I'm 31 and I can still eat that much and not get fat. Am I just blessed?

That was me (more or less) around your age - and my then-wife (a nurse who was on her way to becoming a doctor) said "that's great---just see what it's like in 5-10 years if you don't start eating differently."
And she was right lol

My brother is that way. He can pretty much eat anything he wants and never has cholesterol problems or gains weight. If he eats too much junk food he actually loses weight.

Currently it seems your body is being nice to you. That can and often does change when people hit their mid 30's to early 40's, which can really hit people very hard if they spent four decades eating what they want when they want.

Cholesterol and body weight are not the only indicators of health issues related to food though.
To be completely wicked - someone could have perfect cholesterol, be super thin and never exercise etc. while eating mass quantities of food and even junk food. Just to bad that nobody checked to see if they had worms or other "friends" living inside of them.

Do you drink a lot of water? drinking water 15 minutes before a meal can prevent it from hurting your cholesterol

Do you have worms or other parasites living in you?
Have you really had it checked?

I would look at the information online. I know some of the signs are super high metabolisms. Cravings for certain foods. Problems sleeping at night or general insomnia. Also swore I heard that it is more common in people of Asian decent, are you Asian?

Also keep in mind a diet like that most often leads to type2 diabetes later on in life.

Genes plays a lot into it. How is your metabolism?

There's a few people that smoke a lot and die of old age--Chairman Mao Zedong being one of them. Again, genes play a big role.

I CHOSE not to sleep at night, If i layed in bed long enough I'm sure I COULD fall asleep eventually. just CHOSE to stay on-line all night and browse/surf/listen to music... I deliberately stay up just because I CAN.

I do not have worms living inside of me. Some people just have good genes and can eat a lot without getting fat. I think it's hard for others to accept because they are a bit envious inside.

There are people who have poor metabolisms and starve themselves and they will still be overweight. I am just the opposite.

I have ALWAYS had a high metabolism, ever since I was born... I have cravings for certain foods because I'm depressed and food gives me comfort... Food is my friend and is one of the few things I enjoy in life.

How do you know for sure? Have you been actually tested?

Not envious. I have a super hard time gaining weight. I am also underweight. I can eat what I want and not be concerned with it making me fat or getting my cholesterol out of wack. I just have been tested.

I had a thorough general check up, blood test etc and everything is fine.

I don't live in some freaking third world country.. ok Worms are not that common in America.

Yes they are. Not as common that people catch them but they are just as common. Plus remember that we deal with a global food supply now. One wrong piece of sushi or one wrong piece of meat or hamburger somewhere and presto, you got a friend.

Typically, the symptoms of human intestinal parasites are diarrhea, (nope don't have this)

bad breath, ( Not as far as I know, I brush with a Soniccare too)

dark circles under the eyes, (my skin is flawless)

the constant quest for food, (I eat because I am depressed and sad, not necessarily because I am hungry)

disturbing at night with bad dreams, anemia ( I chose to stay up all night and surf on-line)

and headache. (I have no headaches)

Roundworms (nematodes) can cause inflammation of the lungs and intestines, nausea, vomiting, unconsciousness, Weight loss, fever, nervousness and irritability. Pinworms and threadworms may cause intensive itching in the area of the rectum. Threadworms can cause recurrent episodes of diarrhea alternating with constipation, Weight loss, cough and fever. Hookworms can lead to anemia and nutritional disorders. The presence of Giardia can cause pain in the calves and weakness in the legs.

Ummm, I don't have any of these symptoms above... I never had "WEIGHT LOSS", I never lost weight, I have been this way my ENTIRE LIFE...

I weigh MORE now than I was 20 or 25, but even so I am STILL under my ideal body weight. I have ALWAYS been this way. When I was in elementary shool I was the smallest one out of the ENTIRE CLASS. This was when I was 12...

I am super healthy. I never had any infections or serious illness. I never even get colds.

haha.

I was saying the same thing as the OP when I turned 30. I could eat all I wanted, of whatever I wanted.

Then, it happened...

I gained 20+ pounds in a few years.

Now three years later I'm finally back down to the weight I used to be. Had to cut down on all of that junk food and other garbage I used to plough though.

To the OP: just give it time.

Make sure to pay attention when it does happen or else it will be difficult to regain control.

Seriously though, there are quite a number of factors that will determine if you will gain weight or not.

If you live an active lifestyle, then you probably won't have to worry.

The best way to fend off weight gain is to keep your largest muscle groups in shape through weight training.

-Abdominals. Start here for a partial warm-up.
-Thighs. Since the legs automatically bring the muscles of the lower back into play, be sure you are thoroughly warmed up before working thighs. This is the largest muscle group in the body.
-Chest.
-Back. Again, be thoroughly warmed up before working this large muscle group.
-Shoulders.
-Triceps.
-Biceps. Work triceps and biceps last, as they are small muscle groups.
