Microsofts BING and what it means to you...

By June 6th Microsoft is supposed to replace their Live search with BING. Would be nice to see what this means for porn. If it means Google like results with a lot more of the sponsors sites making the top spot I know of at least one affiliate that makes a minimum of $250K a year on his SEO results will now make $20K a year on them if lucky.

Could this be the end of black hatting your way to the top of MSN?

Could happen.
It could also be a complete wash like their last search engine.

So that black hat game is going out the window too.

Live loves spam so why would Bing be different? But with 8% of the market very few of us will even notice them.

I know of an affiliate that basically put 98% of his marketing strategy into LIVE search... BING does not handle indexing or results like LIVE does. It is almost like a cross between google and that quaferam alpha crap.

Anything black hat had to be considered temporary. Anyone who made long term plans based on black hat SEO money is a tool.

As an independent webmaster, I'll be happy to see real web sites with real content getting the top spots for their relevant search phrases.
As opposed to the guy who knew the most tricks or had the best programmer to crack an algorithm or whatever.

I heard it will have categories and the results will be broken down into usable groups, depending on exactly what you are looking for.

They are also launching a pretty big ad campaign to go along with it.

I don't really like the name, reminds me of the 90's and that chandler bing character from Friends, which I hated.

But never count Microsoft out. They were thought of as a joke in the gaming industry and nobody thought the Playstation could ever be dethroned, now the PS3 is a borderline failure, their CEO in charge of gaming resigned in disgrace, and the PS3 is even behind the Wii in sales.

Ditto Internet Explorer and Netscape.

They need to learn that they cannot create successful software, even if their life depended on it.

If they have trouble making a stable web browser, what does that tell you about their operating system.

Every time you buy or use a Microsoft product, you are funding terrorism.

Say what?

The largest and most successful software company of all time bar none "cannot create successful software" ?

You're trying so hard to be right that all logic, facts and figures have been tossed aside!

You're probably reading this in... windows. I'm writing it in windows.

I haven't used IE in a long time, admittedly, it's always been garbage.

However when I look back on my Atari, Amiga, Tandy and IBM AT/XT days, Microsoft rode in like a white knight and wowed us. Seeing Windows 2.0 for the first time? Amazing. MS Word vs Wordperfect 5.1? Amazing. Windows 3.1? Very advanced for the time. Plus I've always loved their mice and keyboards.

And because of Microsoft's success (and lax stance on piracy of their software) thousands of other companies were able to hop on the gold train and make some cool stuff too. We have a lot to be thankful for.

LOL Wordperfect reminds me of the Amiga days. You gotta admit, workbench kicked ass.

But Microsoft, they only got where they are now because of how they took a shit over the open source community. They bought the source code for DOS off some hobbyist programmer just to impress IBM at the time. Microsoft did not create their own success. IBM did. Microsoft just used a different business strategy at the time. It wasn't due to the quality of their software.

It's not a big deal for BH's... The engines are always changing.

But more importantly.... someone makes $250k from MSN? That's a lot of freakin listings.. I have had several #1 slots on some prime words and I haven't received enough traffic to come close to earning that, across the board, on MSN listings..

MSN's SE was more forgiving than Google. Converts better as well.

Anyway, I'm watching my Analytics stats closely to see if there's any difference.

Comparing MSN to Bing right now from Analytics:

Bing has a lower bounce rate. Longer retention time. We'll see if this continues.

Black hats are supposed to be consistently adapting their tactics to stay competitive and a lot view their strategies as short term. Those who are willing to adapt will still make money.
