Even tho I hated school and I wasn't the best student, I'll admit looking at my degree on the wall is kinda cool and you'll appreciate it later in life... especially if you wife and her circle of friends have theirs and/or advanced degrees

Exactly... I've seen tons of adult webmasters that can't spell their way out of a paper bag, can't install a script to save their life, but are really successful. It's fucking crazy. Maybe it's some sort of right-brain / left-brain thing. Who knows...

People who point out "well so and so never went to college and he's the most successful guy I know" are like the people who had an uncle who lived to be 90 even though he smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day.

There are exceptions to everything, but the rules are the rules for a reason.

True. It's not crazy at all. The successful webmasters focus on business and strategy. They outsource the rest. For a good discussion about this, dig up the drama thread between Brad Shaw and AMP regarding this same topic... I think it involved HTML

Sadly it really doesn't. If you're ever in the position where you hire a significant amount of staff and you believe that to be true, you're in for a whole crap load of trouble.

Will do. Thanks for the heads up. I agree 100%, but I have a hard time with it because I have a bad habit of "doing it my way" and not trusting anyone to do it the way I would want it done, etc. I really have to work on that.

(end Dr. Phil rant)

its sad when I see parents go all gung ho on their kids and trying to get them into colleges just so they can brag to friends where their son is at

bottom line is most people if they really decide to really achieve something they can learn it and make it happen, but most people are too busy listening to their negative fucktard in some cases jealous people around them too

Im gonna give my daughter the opportunities that i never got. She will be very informed when she makes her major choices in life. And she will know that all of her choices are not always permanent.

And as far as bragging about my kid going to college or me going to college, i need to worry more about explaining how i have a BS, BA and JD degree and im shoot porn for a living.

And yes you dont need college to go and accomplish your business goals. But it is pretty cool to have it under your belt as an accomplishment.

And dont let EscortBizPro fool you, its easy for him to say college is a waste of time when he is packing a 180+ IQ

Fact :

The only people who think college is bullshit are people who simply couldn't make it.

gfy isn't therapy.

Something else to think about regarding this issue.

College isn't necessary if all you want to do is make a living, or even make a fortune, but believe it or not, money isn't everything to all people.

We're not going to find a cure for cancer without people going to college. We're not going to have many engineers, doctors, dentists, scientists, etc if nobody goes to college.
There are alot of other things the world needs besides people who are good at buying something for $1 and selling it for $2.

A post was made earlier about how come the children of the rich are often not financial successes, even though they're given every advantage vis a vis education.
Did it ever occur to you that money isn't important to them because they grew up in an environment of excess and decided that they wanted to do something with their life other than doubling their father's fortune?

+1... you never know what will happen in life, i rather have some kind of degree to fall back on (worst comes to worst making some 30g's in the office) instead of stacking up food in a grocery store.. for every successful guy who started his own company without college degree there's probably 100's of guys who started their own company with some type of degree...

A science degree will make you a lot smarter. You talk different, you think different.
When I catch up with high school friends you can tell they haven't changed since
they were 15. Even if the career opportunities are hard to find it's still worth doing.
College is a 3 year blast, and chicks dig graduates!

????? They are there!! Balls, brains, work experience, you name it, its there. To such a serious extreme that its really not fair to everyone else. EBP Is not looking for validation. He is sharing an opinion that is nurtured by his experiences, knowledge and accomplishments.

But then again "The Devils greatest trick is convincing everyone that he does not exist'.

This is a great little exchange of ideas and opinions, but at the end of the day I have 2 college undergraduate degrees, Advertising/Marketing, Communications/Public Relations and a JD degree in law. College was no waste of my time and i do use a lot of what i learned everyday.

Then again my degrees give me real world knowledge that i can make work for me. If i had a degree in Art, Drama, Liberal Arts or underwater basket weaving from an Ivy league school and worked at Starbucks i would probably shoot my self.

Thats what you get for going to school for the wrong reasons (your parents).

Alot of huge assumptions in that theory.

Like assuming that the guy with no college will be able to stay employed, consistently, from age 18-65.
Considering we average a recession once a decade and that group is the one hardest hit, not likely. Considering job prospects for that group will continue to deteriorate over time, these numbers holding up is even less likely.

We're also dealing with some fuzzy math vis a vis savings. In this hypothetical, the high school guy starts saving 5% of his pay at age 18. The college guy doesn't start saving until he's 34. That's 16 years of extra savings, so no shit the guy who started 16 years earlier is ahead.

Not a very fair or realistic comparison. As is usual with an op-ed, this guy already had his mind made up and then "found" numbers that supported his theory.

Nice try though.
