Laptop Going into Sleep Mode

So my XPS M1210 Dell is about 2 years old.. Its my "beside the bed for emergencies while sleeping" laptop... and since I'm recovering from surgery right now... and wanna actually WORK from bed.. it's decided to take a shit on me.

It will boot up just fine.. Windows will load.. and about 3 mins in... the screen will go black..

I could then put it in standby.. and hit the power button... and it'd come back on.. then go back dark in 3 mins...

I've switched all the power settings to "never".. so as to not allow "sleep" mode... however.. I then went into advanced in the power settings and selected to never enable standby just to see.. so now I can't put it into standby and wake it up either...

Anyone had anything similar? How did they fix it?

It never runs on battery.. always on AC...

Oh so it's not going into sleep mode.. I just noticed that it's just going VERY dark.... dim...

I can hold my iphone to it.. and still see the screen to work on it..

so would this mean it's an LCD issue? or spyware issue?

Does it do it when the power lead is plugged in and not getting power from just the battery?

Apparently my backlight has failed. That's what I'm learning from all the googling..

With the prices of Dells at WalMart and other places right now.. I'll probably just buy a replacement.. BAHHHHHHHHH.

That sucks dude. You could always order a replacement display off Ebay, too. I was going to suggest calling Dell, but it sounds like you already figured it out.

Someone on the dell boards said the replacement might cost 150-200ish... I think I may look into it a bit in the morning.. compare pricing and see... if it's gonna be anything over 300.. I'll just go get a new one.. or if replacing it is gonna be something that hurts my brain.. lol

You know the XPS 1210 is actually a pretty nice machine. One of the last of the full powered sub-notebooks. I'd hate to see it go to waste.
