An Epic adventure and a must read for any traveler out there

I came across an article on gawker about a couple who sold all there belongings and took a 2 year trip around Asia, Russia, and Africa on the ground in a Landcruiser. Gawker referenced to a expedition forum where the couple documented there on land trip through the democratic republic of congo in africa. One of the most controversial and poorest places on planet earth. They person telling the story was also a great writer for someone who uses english as a 3rd language. This read sucked me in. I couldn't leave the computer until it was finished. You can check it out here.

Enjoy.

I never got the "guts" to do a similar 1 year+ trip...

Wow, that is some coincidence. I would never be able to do it either. It takes some real guts to do what they did.

Thank you, I'll have a read, sounds like an amazing adventure.

Parts of Africa are VERY dangerous. I read one couples travel story where they were attacked by a group of men and they held the white guy down and made him watch while the black guys gang raped his GF. Horrible shit.

These trips sound interesting. Interesting notes to make would be:
- wild animals
- plants
- climate
- people
- buildings
- roads
- walls
- methods of transportation
- foods
- products
- shops
- languages
- education

Yea, if you have ever read about the congo, it is no joke. It has been war torn for years. The limited economy that is there is all based on bribes and extortion via the diamond trade. If you have ever seen Blood Diamond, this is where it is based on. There are villages where these people wanted to stop for water and sleep but could not because they could tell it wasd not very safe. Most of the time they spent overnight was in catholic missions. These were the only safe gated places to stay (in there tent). It really is a crazy read.

Fantastic read!!!!And yes, they could easily make this a book that would sell copies. Thanks for the link
There will be a live interview tomorrow with the couple, looking forward to tuning in! Unreal adventure that was so well wrote, with an unbiased pen.

Friends of mine took half a year off and drove from Europe to South Africa.
It's a very enriching experience and will make you regard your own life in a new light.

If you ask me, such a trip should be made mandatory for everybody in the US.
