Godaddy DNSs - GoFuckYourself.com

Did anyone of you ever tried to create and use your own nameservers with Godaddy? If yes then could you please help me with understanding how to do it. I think I understand how to register them but I have no idea what is the next step.. I've tried to find an answer almost anywhere but with no positive result and also Godaddy support sucks.

So to register nameservers we need to do this:

To Register Your Own Hosts

   1. Log in to your Account Manager.
   2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
   3. Click the domain for which you want to create a host.
   4. In the Host Summary section, click the add hyperlink in the header.
   5. In the Host name field, enter the host name you want to register.

      NOTE: Do not enter "www" as part of your host name.
   6. In the Host IP fields, enter the IP address(es) you want to add to the host.
   7. Click OK.

And then what?

On the assumption that I've a already addded a domain to my hosting as I do in a standard situation. Then as described above I've created nameservers using the same IP I used when adding the domain to my hosting account.

Sorry if this question sounds stupid...

Pls. help.

I forget how I did mine with them but I called them up and they walked me through it.

Ok, so it's easy. Login to your account, change the nameservers to whatever you want.

Press OK.

Then wait for whatever time you have to wait, 24hours, or whatever.

I don't think you want to register your own hosts (that would be if you would actually be running your own name servers). I think you only want to change name servers for your domain?

Just click on the domain and current name servers and than choose third button

If you use the domain manager, just click on the "Name Servers" link on the domain you want to change... it's really that easy.

Just for starters you need to have your own servers. This option is not for pseudo names.

Are you trying to setup ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com? If yes, you CAN do that on GoDaddy ... I just did it the other day. You just need a dedicated IP address to point each of those name servers to, which your host will provide you with. They must go to a DNS server though and not just your box.

If you have that, hit me up on ICQ and I'll walk you through it.

The most important thing is that it must be pointing to a DNS server.

You can do it on shared servers if you have dedicated IP's [and your host allows it].

Thx all. Yes, I would like to do exactly what epitome said, I want to setup my own private dns and I think I have everything what is needed for this purpose, my own dedicated sever with some IPs too. I am quite sure that the hosting company which is webair allows me to do that... I just don't know how to do it... there is many conflicted and misleading theories and tutorials about this so after reading them I just feel more confused e.g. I've found some info here http://www.www.howtoforge.com/ispconfig_dns_godaddy but it seems to be a bit out-of-date and still not enough clear. ...I wouldn't like to mess too much around zonefiles and server to don't screw things but as they say practice and mistakes are best teachers... I still need some help... detailed step by step and easy to understand

Pull up the domain
Click the Manage link by nameservers
ns1. yourdomain.com ns2.yourdomain.com

Click the Add link by Host summary.

Put in your IP's for ns1 and ns2

GoDaddy is much faster than that. Usually about 15 minutes. But yeah, technically you should give up to 72 hours for it to be global.

I've already tried to do it this way..

Under Godaddy domain cp I've registered nameservers with the same IP that I binded them with my hosting.

Code:

Host Summary (add)
NS1	delete 	edit
NS2	delete 	edit
1 to 2 of 2

and then changed ns info

Nameservers:  (Last Update 9/5/2009)
NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM
NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM

But it doesn't seem to work

Am I missing something? Should I change something in the DNS Control Panel in my hosting account control panel or something?

Do you have 2 IPs or 1, you might need 2 for it to register with the root servers. Otherwise your bind or other DNS server is not properly configured.

I used only 1 IP... the one to which I added the domain in my hosting cp.

First of all, do you have registered your own dns ( ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com ).
If not you need to do that at your registrar level ( Godaddy ) :
- create dns servers (search their FAQ, it is there ). For each server, you need a dedicated IP
- then, again at your registrar level, you need to enter those dns servers ( ns1.mydomain.com ...) for each site you want to use those dns ( so in the panel of mysite1.com , mysite2.com )
or/and
- use http://www.zoneedit.com/ as a free dns . Just need to add your zone ( mysite1.com ) and enter the dns servers there.

or

- pay someone to do it for you or walk you thru .

The problem is already solved!!!

Fortunately one guy at Webair support Lew helped me out. It was just a matter where to point the nameservers, that's it.
