Where were you 8 years ago?

This is one of those days that most of us from the US will know forever where we are at when we heard what was going on.

For me, I was in college up early that morning cramming for a test I had that afternoon. I saw the news on AOL.com then turned on my TV. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to grab my video camera and my (ex) girlfriend and head towards the city.

Honestly, was completely shocking and changed my whole perspective about tragedies like this. I don't think I would of taken to heart what really happened as much as I do if I was not there. I obviously wasn't able to get into the city, but I was able to get on the highway across the river and get some shots with my camcorder.

Anyway, its kind of interesting to hear what other people say... some say they were in an airport, others didn't hear about it until they got home from work that day, etc.

I was at work at an office job I had. I remember watching the news with one of my bosses who kept saying "There is no way the towers will collapse" while the towers were coming down in front of his eyes.

I had awakened soon after the second plane went in. I logged on to Voltars webmaster board and Cleo had posted a message saying she was watching a morning show and a plane had just crashed into a building.. then I refreshed and she'd just added a new message saying another plane just crashed into the trade center on live tv, so I flipped channels and basically watched the tv all day long trying to absorb everything. Just crazy.

I was the supervisor that opened up that morning when I was working at Starbucks. We found out about it and were getting information from customers as they were coming in. There was no TV there and no internet so we didn't see the footage until we closed up around noon and went home to watch the news.

I'm not from US and I can remember exactly that day like it was yesterday, not only the US, but the world was in shock on that day. I just don't give a fuck for polititics, it is the same shit everywhere, I just felt sad for the people.

same here (but I was in PA). i was in a daze for a while and watched and read all the news that i could find on what happened. i think that is mainly because I saw what happened in person, so it was a little more shocking than when you see it on the news.

the scariest part, besides driving up to the city on I-78 and having NO ONE on the road was teh entire sky full of smoke and all the military around the area

I was working for Ameritech (now AT&T).

At the time of the 9-11 attacks I was sitting in a union grievances all morning. I was a union steward at that time, and it was not unusual for me to spend a half day, or day, argueing people's cases with management.

Anyway, at the time of the attacks all of our pagers went off. The first attack, then the second, and it was almost back to back beeping. Management and mine. We read about the attacks as they happened and were kinda shocked to say the least. I still remember to this day one of the managers saying, 'Kinda puts all this union bickering bullshit into perspective".

We wrapped up the grievances and some went back to work, I think I took the 2nd half the day off. Went home, drank and watched TV the rest of the day.

I was just waking up to get ready for my flight from Phoenix to Florida. The phone rang and it was my friend telling me "you aren't flying anywhere today. Turn on the TV". I did just as the second plane hit.
At the time, I had streaming cam capabilities on my computer and a ton of people messaging me that the could not get on the news sites to see what was going on so I pointed my cam at my TV and shot the URL out to everyone I could. Then, I just sat glued to the TV for the rest of the day. Shocked, like most everyone else.

I was in lower manhattan

I saw the second tower collapse from my roof, and I saw the thousands of people covered in white dust coming up from Wall. Just like in every disaster, the stores sold out of food and water in like 5 minutes.

I was very close to the WTC. I worked about 2 blocks away which are very small blocks when you are downtown. My boss who happened to be home alerted me to CNN which I put on my screen. I then walked downstairs and debated with a few coworkers as we were getting hit with paper and burnt debris everywhere.....if we should walk down and see whats up.

I wanted nothing to do with going down there, even though we were so close. I had a bad feeling about the whole thing. Moments later, I heard the worst sound that I have ever heard. The sound of a plane ripping through a building and the subsequent explosion. The glass doors on my building were shaking it was so loud and close. Honestly when I remember the sound it makes me sick. Nothing will ever describe or come close to what we heard and saw that day.

My first instinct was to get to safety so I grabbed the nearest coworker Maureen who was stunned and we bolted to my buildings basement and walked out the back entrance. People everywhere were running for their lives. It was surreal. I needed to tell my boss that something was up so I stupidly went upstairs and told him that I was leaving the city- that we were under a terrorist attack (to which I had no knowledge but had a strong feeling) I sent a letter to our client base that the office is closed today due to the events at the WTC. I grabbed Maureen and we both headed away from the WTC towards the nearest subway. We didnt speak to eachother for at least 20-30 minutes as we were both in shock.

The train was heading into queens at the time and about 2 stops from our station, the conductor of the train announced that ALL trains have been suspended and to get off the train now. I consider myself lucky to be quick witted enough to get the f' out. I was on one of the last trains out of NYC. My brother had to walk home 20 miles over the bridge and he was about 60 blocks away.

Outside in queens, we looked across the county to see both buildings smoking and one collapsed.

My office was closed for the next 10 days because we were in the debree zone. I wore a mask to work while in the streets and had to go through massive security to get to my job daily. The stench of the aftermath was another thing I will never forget.

Sorry for the long story. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was working on a TGP site I was running at the time.
Had a small TV on my left side turned on for some background noice.

Noticed the news about a plane hitting WTC. They thought it was an accident and only a small plane. Didnt care to much since I thought it wasnt such a big deal. Maybe a couple of people dead. Tragic yes but no biggie.

Kept on working and heard some weird comments, turned my head towards the TV seconds before the second plane hit the second buidling.

Watched the TV for the rest of that day and half the night.

I was very shocked and it is still difficult to watch those planes..

I was living with my mom at the time, taking care of her while she was going through cancer treatment. I slept on the couch in case she needed me in the mornings. I heard her say Oh my god and jumped up thinking something happened with her. I looked at the tv and saw the second plane hit. We sat there all day watching the news until I had to go to work. I was bartending at the time and it was the strangest night ever at the bar. We never put music on, just had all the tvs on the same news station. People were so quiet, it was eerie. Towards the end of the night I got a bunch of 21 year olds in from a local restaurant and they were in shock. They never thought anything like this could happen to the United States.

I was sleeping. I woke up about noon to my alarm clock saying america was under attack. I nearly shit myself. Turned on the tv and I couldn't believe my eyes. I ended up going out and doing what I had planned on doing that day, buying a bedroom set from Leon's. I guess everyone else was watching tv because no one was out shopping. I didn't sleep that night at all, I was just wondering where/what would be next.
