It aired on radio from January 25, 1937 to June 29, 1956 and debuted on CBS Television on June 30, 1952. The final story airs on CBS on September 18, 2009. It is also the longest running broadcast program of any kind (72 years), across both radio and then television mediums, in history, being first broadcast five days after President Franklin D Roosevelt's second inauguration.

TV in the US started in 1948 though some form of the technology existed since the late 1920s. It made it's public debut in the 1939 World's Fair. Though originally as a potenital new communication device.

The damn show replacing it is Let's Make a Deal with Wayne Brady as the host, and I am NOT happy about this one little bit. I have watched Guiding Light as long as i can remember and they have won award after award as recent as this very year, but it is still being taken off for a FUCKING game show..... what a waste of airtime that'll be.

Needless to say, I am not happy with this, I grew up watching this show.
