Apparently there's a power outage here in Poway affecting a bunch of people. In half an hour 366 calls were made to the power company here SDG&E per their automated line, and their estimated time for power to come back is half an hour from now.

BUT - on a laptop + on a router with a battery backup = fully online and working on computer still despite nothing else in the house working, lol. Thank god for that!

Otherwise I'd have to get outside and breathe air or something. Dunno what it is about this area but this is maybe the 20th power outage here in 2 and a half years of at least 10 mins and this'll be the longest.

I'm about to set up a location with a bunch of mini-ITX Atom mainboards that run on a single 12V input, so there's no need for a UPS. They're also very efficient (each board draws less than 20W) so even a medium sized battery will provide for at least a few hours runtime in the event of a total power loss. I'm looking forward to putting it all together.

If you're really keen you can get a gas powered backup generator like PersianKitty... it will keep more than your laptop running.
