The Ultimate Fighter - Kimbo Slice

so kimbo lost tonight.. but i will say that i really like the guy.. he is a humble guy and i see a side of him that i never knew..

he's not cocky and he has a likable personality..

i always rooted against him when he was fighting showtime because i thought he was over hyped..

i will say tonight he didnt get to show what he can do,,

i will also say that his ground game should be a lot better considering how long he has been working on it..

i am not a jj expert, but from my training for the last few years i have always been taught to turn into your opponent when on the bottom..

not really sure why he laid flat..

maybe it was because big country was heavy, but at the same time i grapple with guys all the time that outweigh me by 30-50 pounds and i never get caught in a flat position when on the bottom..

anyway, i am curious to hear what other mma/bjj guys have to say about the fight tonight..

and as a sidebar, i think kimbo has won over dana and frank... i think originally dana wanted to see kimbo get schooled, but i think dana now has a soft spot for kimbo..

i hope tuf helps kimbo move to the next leevel and get some good bjj coaches..

Never cared for him. But after hearing him talk, he is a down to earth humble guy willing to learn. If he can get into a camp that will teach him some ground work he should be fine. Jackson can't coach worth shit....

I don't watch TUF much, but when you lose arent you eliminated? like the guy in the first wrong with the giant gash in his forehead.

You are eliminated, but Kimbo might have a chance to come back as an injury replacement if another fighter gets hurt since he had a decent showing. They are already teasing Marcus Jones getting injured and Kimbo coming back in the previews for next week...

It use to be once you lost you got sent home, now if you lose you are allowed to stay and keep training. If for some reason a fighter on your team can't fight, then they can use a fighter who has already lost as an alternate

I like him too. I thought he was initially just some brawling thug but the show showed quite the opposite.

He needed to be shown how to use his legs more when on the ground.

Yup, that one is true. The guy DMX is fighting is an actor/musician that is only 5'5" and is outweighed by DMX by almost 20 pounds. I respect anyone that has the balls to get into the cage, but I hope DMX realizes that fake tough guy gangsta reputation is going to take a HUGE hit if he gets KO'd by a much smaller actor...

Anytime a popular show is on that you like and if you live in PST, you have to avoid this place as people love to post spoilers in thread titles.

lol watching that fight brought back memories. I started wrestling my freshmen year in high school and had to spar with a guy who was 100lbs heavier cause no one else wanted to wrestle his fat ass. He laid on me and being new I had no skills to escape, so I bit him on his titty lol

Kimbo does come off as likable, but he really needs to learn some better ground skills, especially basic defense. Roy Nelson did exactly what he said he was going to do and simply pinned one of Kimbo's arms in side control and Kimbo had no clue how to get him off of him and how to stop the unanswered punches he was taking. James Thompson did exactly the same thing to Kimbo back in 2008 and he should have specifically trained on how to get out of that, as well as how to get someone off you who has mounted you.

Kimbo is great for marketing the sport of MMA. Everyone want's him to win, because he's so thugged out and buff. At the same time, people know he's not skilled at MMA so he's liable to get his ass kicked easily, which is exactly what makes him interesting to watch.

I will actually be really interested to see this fight. It was originally supposed to happen when the Klitschko brothers started K2 promotions to promote their boxing fights, but they also planned on promoting MMA, and Butterbean/Tank was supposed to main event their first MMA card at the Staples Center back in 2006.

Obviously it never happened, but I always hoped they would eventually get in the cage together. Nothing annoys me more than fake MMA purists that complain about so called freak show bouts. If you are a fan of MMA there is nothing wrong with getting excited about watching a couple of guys like Butterbean and Tank slug it out. Hell, if someone told me Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were going to fight in the cage you bet your sweet ass I would be ordering that PPV...

yeah, he didnt even try to post up. he just laid there... although i dont understand why herb stopped the fight.. kimbo wasnt taking any hard punishment..

i dont think dana was happy about that and i think the fight should have continued, but it was kimbo's fault for not trying to post or improve position..

That was what annoyed me about the fight. In the end, you have to intelligently defend yourself, which Kimbo wasn't doing, but those punches weren't doing any damage. The fact that Kimbo popped right up showed that. MMA always errs on the side of caution when it comes to protecting fighters, but if I had my way that fight would have continued...

Yea the UFC has come a long way since the tournament days. When you could kick in the nuts, headbutt, hit in the back of the head, stomp on someones face. A 300 lber could fight a 120 lber, and people could fight a few times in a night.

You're right, it doesn't, and off the top of my head I can't remember who reffed that first fight. I am really surprised Herb Dean called the Kimbo fight when Roy Nelson was just patting him on the head. Then again, Herb was right there in his face, and maybe he saw something that wasn't apparent on camera. I am not really a Kimbo fan, but I was pissed when the fight was stopped...

Just saw the fight. What a let down.

Kimbo needs some serious help with grappling/wrestling/ground game because he got served by chubby boy. It just seemed like Kimbo laid there taking a breather. He wasn't even moving, squirming or trying to flip over at all. That doesn't seem like the best strategy.

Who would have thought that Roy Nelson would beat the street brawler. Kimbo caught Roy with a few punches in the 2nd round though.

If he does get to fight again, he has to have a better strategy once he is taken down or someone else will make him look silly.

It's not gay if you want to get out from the guy on top of you. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, we teach the new belts to "Turn in to your fears", meaning turn into your guy to create space.

Before you give Roy Nelson any shit, he was the IFL Heavyweight Champion, and also an accomplished Grappler. Roy was the heavy favorite to win, due to his experience. Kimbo was fed to the Lion, and Coach Rashad knew putting his number 1 guy on Kimbo would pay off.

These are the type of comments from Noobs that make me face palm. Grappling proves once again, it wins 9 times out of 10.

I liked the UFC much better back then. It was more real. The big guy didn't always win either. Gracie showed that in the first UFCs.

Good for him. He needs to learn some basic ground skills and defense so he knows what to do when he has one arm pinned or has a strong guy on top of him in side control or even worse, in a mount.

The crucifix is one of the easiest moves to defend against on the ground and Nelson got Kimbo with it not once but twice.

I agree with what others have said here though, Kimbo seems very humble and takes direction well. The only thing that could stop him from being an amazing fighter is his age, doesn't leave much time to learn and develop a good ground game.

I disagree Bro, once it's locked in, you are fucked. Let's not forget that Matt Hughes finished Royce Gracie with the same position.

Back to Kimbo/Nelson fight, Kimbo had a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt and oer 280lbs on top of him by the name of Roy Nelson. Not many people are getting out of that.

Everytime I've had a chance to talk to him, he's always been humble, none of this thug life bullshit. I know over 60 year old Brown Belts, and 50 year old Blackbelts. He doesnt' have to be that advanced, but he does have to learn how to get out of bad positions, and now he's with American Top Team, you can bet your ass he's going to get that training.

judging from the way big country normally fights from his ifc days, i think he was schooling kimbo with that rules win.

And they cut it together to make him look less impressive.

I think he layed down soft punches and counting out just to humiliate kimbo, sort of see a street fighter with no ground game will lose in UFC even if all i do is throw love taps.
