any hazard to ignoring those automated Icann confirmation emails godaddy sends out yearly to confirm contact info? seems like a waste of time, if I sign into my godaddy account once in a while they better assume that my info is how I want it on all my domains

Same here.. i have about 1,000 names, almost 700 are with godaddy,.. i have responded to some, but i know i have missed a ton..

always thought i should call them and ask them about those emails, but never have...

i have heard horror stories about godaddy reselling names before, but it's never happened to me..

if it did ever happen over not responding to an email even though everything else was paid up and all contact info was ok, i would pull all 700+/- sites from them immediately...

i have found in the past a few typos i have made on email contacts (and did it in bulk, like affecting 50 sites or so..) and those typos may have been there for months, but i always was ok.. and if i wasn't, with the amount of domains i have i think it would warrant a phone call as a backup.

so far (knock on my wood) I have only had one issue in the past decade and that was with idotz.net.. will never use them again.. gotta say that they are kind of shady.... would not trust them ever.....

they simply point to the ICANN rules, the emails they have sent out to "warn" you to make sure the whois contact info is correct, then oh snap....

Yea, what could be happening is someone is inquiring about the domain, either by dmca'ing godaddy, or possibly someone is trying to have the domain forfeited by proving the whois is bunk. Not saying this is the case but it is a possibility. I'd reply. If they cant confirm your whois technically that is a violation of icann's tos and the domain can be forfeited.
This is a possibility. Im not accusing you of doing anything wrong.

I accidentally deleted one of those emails from godaddy. Phoned them up and they weren't too concerned about it. They simple told me to log in and check the whois info, and if it was legit then not to worry.

well in the past decade, the only actual postal mailings i have gotten were those scam bogus domain renewal notifications (most of which have be prosecuted, but i still get a few here and there)...

i have never gotten any snail mail from any of the 2 dozen registrars i belong to (maybe one or two from network solutions back in the 90's, but who uses them anymore LMFAO!!)...

i would think they could be in big shit if there was anything that indicated them trying to use icann regs to scam people.. however i have heard horror stories before..

now i am paranoid and think i might need to call them to make sure i won't get screwed lol..

All you have to do is log in, click the icann link and you're done. It gives you a view of all your names and you don't have to change anything, confirm anything, etc. It just wants you to check the icann page, thats all.

I Got one of those annoying messages today. It didn't take too long to scan through the records to be sure they are correct. It is worth the time to be sure an important domain has the right contact info.

Moniker sends the same reminders. It seems to be based on the date they're registered rather than something a little more coarse like domains registered in month X, so if you tend to register 1 or 2 domains here and there (thus spreading out their renewal dates) you get a lot of those emails.

Funny thing is I have WHOIS privacy so the contact details are essentially irrelevant. I know they're correct, anyway.
