Good Article About the State of the Industry: Porn?s Final Days?

The comments also give a good insight to how porn surfers habits have shifted.

Is this the end? Or is it a new beginning for adult webmaster affiliate model?

http://www.ishootporn.com/?p=3905
=====================
Porno Princess calls me the other day. She?s in tears. She?s broke. She has no money, which isn?t anything new for most Porno Princesses ? trust me, this I know. ?Do you have any work? I?ll do almost anything right now. For whatever you have to pay me.?

Another Porno Princess texts me: If you pay me $750 I will do any kind of scene you want. ANY kind.

Stunt Cock called me a week ago. He?s pissed. He?s got one of the biggest wieners in Porn Valley, but that doesn?t mean a thing anymore. After telling me, ?this business has bankrupted me. Fuck porn!? he said he?s about to embark on a new career: he?s leaving for Alaska to be a fur trapper. (Yes, a fur trapper. I won?t comment beyond that).

What?s going on?

Free Internet Porn.

In addition to no more money for Porno Princess and Stunt Cock, there?s no more future work either. Which is just a dumb way of saying in the past you could live day-to-day, cause you were getting booked 5 times a week. Now some of these performers are lucky to get booked 3 times a month. And the only girls who are getting consistent work are the newbs.

Like most business, porn?s struggling. Unlike most, porn?s business model is competing against something fierce and mighty. To really complicate things, it?s a business model has changed radically in the last five years?and no one likes change.

DVD?s have pretty much vanished; online adult flourished?and now it?s all all free.

But you know that.

Imagine opening a taco stand, and a few weeks later another opens across the street. The tacos aren?t as good as yours, but they?re free. Gratis. Take ?em and leave ? as many as you want.

You just left a Tube Site. Admit it. You just jacked it for free, and you probably watched a half dozen full length scenes before blowing you load, too, and you didn?t shell out a penny. You didn?t have to worry about downloading some weird codec. You didn?t have to worry about downloading a file that might, in fact, was a virus. You didn?t have to give up your e-mail. No joining some creepy forum. You didn?t even have to wait for the file to fucking download. You just pulled down your pants, made sure Wifey wasn?t on her way home, pressed a play button and cranked one out. Then, you cleaned up, checked out what I have to say today, and now you?re on your way out to start your day. Or finish it. Or continue it. Whatever.

You?ve probably been doing been doing this since about 2007, too, when The Tubes starting catching on fire. Now a few of them are even ranked in the top 100 over at Alexa, and that?s huge ? which you may or may not know.

Huge as in huge numbers. Huge amounts of traffic. Spread over all of them, I bet it?s a billion impressions a week. Or a weekend.

And you know they?re using their stolen, full-length clips, and you love it. You know they?re using stolen porn to sell something other than porn, which is a first. Instead of selling you more porn (why? They just fucking gave you more than you could watch), they?re selling (mostly) memberships that promise to get you laid.

This way, you won?t have to jack to porn anymore.

It?s taken about 2 years for all this to really hit home. Like I said, Tubes started catching on around the start of ?07; the DVD market started crumbling soon thereafter; now it?s hit the internet guys. Porn Valley is drying up, and fast. People are freaking out. Agencies are closing. More than 90% of the jobs are being booked by less than 10% of the companies. Rates are dropping. No one?s sure when it?ll come back ? if it ever does.

Most are betting it won?t.

I always thought once the masses figure out Adult Friend Finder and The Facebook of Sex are nothing but big ol? Sausage Fests, the Tubes would implode under their own bandwidth bills, and things would get back to normal. But after listening the The Thief ramble in that Amsterdam Coffee Shop last week. I?m not so sure.

I know what you?re thinking, too: Boo-Hoo Billy. Too bad. Join the club. I lost my job, too. Why the fuck should I pay for porn? Most of it sucks anyways, so fuck you. You?re nothing but a sleazy porno dude, so who cares? I don?t pay for music or mainstream movies either. Why should I? It?s not like I?m walking into a store and shoving DVD?s and CD?s under my shirt and walking out. They?re intangibles, and that makes them fair game. If I can?t touch it, I shouldn?t have to pay for it.

I?m not boo-hooing?just blogging.

Things are changing fast. And no one knows where it?s all heading.

There?s still people paying for music and movies. And, believe it or not, some are still paying for adult entertainment, too: the ones who want to see the girl they want to see doing the naughty things they like to watch instead of just whacking to whatever?s given to them are paying for it. Of course it?s no where near like it was before, and with the money drying up in this game, and the companies closing, and talent starting to leave what next?

Maybe everyone will just be stuck jacking to ripped DVD?s that were shot years ago.

Maybe the Tubes will implode.

Maybe Apple and Windows will develop operating systems that?ll know what you do ? and don?t ? pay for.

Maybe Brazzers (they?re behind the big tubes I mentioned earlier) and the rest of the Porno Thieves will Rule The World.

Maybe.

Jack Kerouac said, ??nobody, nobody knows what?s going to happen to anybody besides the forlorn rags of growing old??

Amen.

How does the stolen taco stand make any money after all the taco's have been stolen from the people that actually produce them?

Indeed, I read it this morning. Content theft is seriously killing this industry. We need to learn from the surfers, see what would make them BUY content instead of watch it on Youpr0n etc... The only way I think we can overcome this problem is if content owners start sueing tubes with their content. We need to take action!

You would stand a better chance of winning if you suing them for unfair market practices or competition.

hmmmm... we are not selling tacos or music, we are selling impulsive sexual satisfaction and expectations to satiate the surfer's deepest fantasies

Offer that and you will survive between the sharks

PS Ok, shrimp tacos in Cancun and Thalia's songs might make me horny, I admit it

with almost a fifth of the US population not working or underemployed they have plenty of time to surf the tubes and torrent sites. once people start going to work they will begin to pay for the the convenience of a paysite.

After reading this thread, I decided TheSenator is correct, too much free porn and tube sites is having a damaging effect to the industry. Where is the industry heading with this? I don't know. If I know one thing for sure, it's that I love Karen O.

Think so?

I'm worried they're learning all the tricks with the time on their hands, and they may never pay again...

Fish tacos and Wilco often satiate my satisfaction and expectations on a level that's pretty damn close to sexual...

I find it amusing.
Look at all the old-timers whose only competitive advantage was to be lucky to get in earlier than others.
No wonder they all took the wrong route and chose the wrong business model. They had no clue!

I won't even read it, porn is far from dead. Its actually getting easier to make money as competition is getting smaller. Now finally you need a clue to make money.

I do wonder if any of the porn valley lawyers have been in touch with DOJ/FTC about monopolies. Porn is, after all, a big big industry and those agencies do not like it when a bunch of people are put out of business and a bunch of eggs are all in one or two baskets.

If a strong enough case is presented to them then they'd have to take it on; no matter what their personal views, it is a legal multi-billion dollar industry.

I also question why an industry as large as this one does not have an association with lobbyists in DC. I cannot think of another multi-billion dollar industry that doesn't have an association and/or lobbyists.

Sometimes I wonder if I am in such a small minority of people that I will never be able to understand the majority. It's almost like the majority is completely unable to logically weigh more than a couple of things at a time. The world is a complex place. That means that you are REQUIRED to think in complex terms. This article doesn't reflect complex thinking... it reflects simplicity... you can't simplify complexity.

There are alot of factors affecting this business and it isn't just content theft or tubes. It's the globalization of our economy and all of the aspects of that in addition to many other contributing factors that derive specifically from individual and collective mindsets about how to earn a profit in general.

It's really symptomatic of much larger issues than just saying that the problem is tubes. If you really want to place blame... place it on the fact that our society is suffering from a lack of ethics in general and that people (especially in this biz) are always looking for a shortcut and lack the ability to think long term. It isn't just adult... it's everywhere. People will fuck themselves long term to enjoy some short term benefit and that mental disorder is rampantly gaining everywhere.

I have stuff to say all the time champ.

However, when someone writes out what I am already thinking. It saves me the time to quote them.

The porno princesses drove up the prices thinking their pussys were a goldmine, I feel nothing for them in these bad times. They could have been so much busier had they dropped the ludicrous fees a little back in 2006. I also met a very famous "pornstar" in Vegas and talked to her for about 15 minutes (in which time my IQ dropped at least 5 points) and she told me she had to "get fucked twice to buy this handbag" which cost her $1500.

In saying that I hate the illegal tubes too and wish they would just disappear so we could all get back to making money. If that ever does happen then lets hope these girls remember the bad times and don't go trying to push up the prices again.

My on this article...

first, the reason why "porn princess" is out of a job is because she is asking for to much and shes not very good at what she does. With the economy in the shitter, girls (and ones that normally wouldn't do porn) are coming out of the wood work.

Ive talked to a couple of girls, who were bar tenders or even friends of friends and once they found out that you have even a thread of a connection in the adult industry they begged to be in and for cheap!

so the surplus of talent has now decreased the price you have to pay them (economics 101... im glad I paid attention the 2nd time I had to take this class in college ). but silly porn girls think they deserve to get paid more

I can't argue that tubes are killing some of the business, but not all of it. porn wont shut down because of tubes and if you think that, your just stupid. however I do agree that it has had an impact on a lot of our sites and conversions, especially as an affiliate.

why would someone want to come to my MGP/TGP, download files and risk either getting caught with porn on their computer or getting a virus? with a tube, they wack and go... pretty ingenious

however, look at the content on the tubes. its all hardcore general type. what about the people looking for a fetish? what about a solo babe? there is still a huge market for that.

finally, regardless of tubes or people stealing content, the business model of selling people access to videos and pictures will eventually change. IMO, cam and live sites will become more and more popular as time goes on where users can direct what they want to see.

great blog and article billy watson

there will always be people willing to pay for porn, affluent older men who would rather just pay and to whom 30 dollars a month is nothing. unfortunately that's probably 25% of the market for porn, which means if we all stay in porn on average we'll make 25% of what we have. but that's not how it will work, many will leave and those left behind will make 40-50% of what they have in the past and work twice as hard and invest more to make it.

God for years now I have continually said the same thing as mentioned in that article - porn today has no intrigue anymore, it's shitty - poorly shot and with scenes that not too many people want to see anymore and are bored. Get some creativity and quality going again - not too mention someone needs to crack down on stolen content !! Start doing that and who knows what will happen.

Porn is not dead - creative porn is

I am sure if Britney or some other celeb came up with a sex tape people would make millions - so the money is there - just the intrigue and idea isn't. Tubes are the internet's version of a parking lot with tons of cars all rev'd up waiting to go somewhere - let's give them something worthwhile to start driving again - then the traffic will show up

Bros -- this isn't an "article". It's a blog. A blog for my readers. My 2 cents.

Just FYI, GFY.
