I'm sick of porn being called a "Marriage Wrecker"

I was flipping through the tv and found MTV has "True Life - Addicted To Porn" and they showed one guy that porn "destroyed his marriage". It really gets me is when they say porn wrecks marriages, which I always think is total fucking bullshit. The thing is for most men, we whack off as a substitute for sex, I'll admit it, I do it myself when the wifey doesn't give it to me often enough.

If a woman has such a fucking problem with her man looking at porn and whacking off, pull down your pants and spread your legs and let him fuck you, he IS you're husband, so there shouldn't be any problems with it, right ??

I think of porn/masturbation as a snack, and fucking your wife is dinner, if dinner isn't gonna be ready for a while, us guys are gonna want a snack, ha ha. Give us dinner on time and we won't have to snack and all will be happy.

i think in a small minority of cases porn can be blamed - a 40 something wife can't usually compare to the sex these guys see in porn movies or the girls whether they be 18 or 40. if that leads to him alienating his wife because she no longer turns him on then yeah, porn definitely fucked the marriage. most men with their heads screwed on right understand this - that porn is a fantasy and for the sake of his personal and family life he doesn't let himself get carried away.

The common thread of this recent research is that an increased availability of graphic materials carries an inverse relationship with the amount of sexual crimes. Simply put: more porn, less rape. And of course, blaming a failing marriage on pornography is pretty dumb. I'm afraid the crux of the problem is much deeper than finding a scapegoat: it lies in the arrangement and expectations of marriage itself.

Men are biologically capable of reproduction well into mid-life and even old age, while women have a relatively limited span of time to reproduce. This falls in line with the proposed distinctive reproductive strategies of men and women. Men sort of spray their genetic material all over the place, both metaphorically when choosing mates and literally when fucking them. It's a quantity thing for guys. On the other hand, women are all about quality. They have to be because of their limited capability for reproduction caused by their limited period of fertility and the amount of time it takes to have a child.

With that little bit of evolution out of the way, you can see why a 40-something year old male will have the propensity to view pornography. He's whacking it to all the 18-something teens that stimulate his primeval, evolutionary proclivities. Combined with the fact that his wife is dried up (sorry ladies), this may lead to infidelity, a ruined marriage, or at the very least, some very hurt feelings.

If a couple were to be more liberal and comprehended these ideas, they would come to the conclusion that sex is not love and they can be mutually exclusive. Though, this would undermine the traditional institution of marriage, and as such religio-conservatives can't fathom the idea (until, of course, they're holding a press release to apologize to their family and constituents for their recent, torrid affair).

Porn is adult entertainment, nothing more. Certain rather weak-spirited people with addictive natures can certainly overindulge in it to the point of it becoming a huge problem in their lives, but so to can people do the same with drugs, alchohol, gambling, video games and a host of other things. I'm sure there are people out there addicted to TV in an extreme way. Junk food is as we speak ruining millions of lives.

What I find odd is that some people would (as others have said here) blame the thing being obsessed upon rather than to go after the real culprit which is the inner weaknesses inside of these addicts. I mean really, should everyone be denied access to something just because a small percentage lack the self control to keep from letting it ruin their marriage, life, etc?

As for the "merits" of porn one could argue what are the merits of any visual media? Really, do we need movies and TV shows rife with murder and horrific violence? Let's cut out all gaming and gambling because what are the "merits" of that?

Here is the short list of what often ruins marriages: alcohol, drugs, sex, work, children, and money.

So either we get rid of all of these things within a marriage or we help people learn to be moderate about them if they care about their marriages.

I definitely think there are negative effects when a partner uses porn a little too often, but it's not going to destroy the relationship unless one or both of those partners want to destroy the relationship.

On a side note: some of the best relationships I've ever seen were with people who were swingers. Sex is important.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. At best there is a minor correlation, and that's giving his study the benefit of the doubt. In reality, he's looking for someone to blame. Next time find a credible article. This is like sending me someone's blog and telling me "its true!"
