Am I wrong to BAN affiliates for embedding with deceptive links around it?

Is it wrong for me to make affiliates give me a link around my embedded FLV's? I have several who I am about to ban and htaccess to break all the embed videos of mine on their site because all the banners around my video including the typical "Click to download this video" is linked to my illegal competitors 100% of the time.

here's a typical one, my video with nothing that links to me on the entire site and surfer is seeing "click to download this video" and end up at a typical 100% illegal all stolen content and CP filled GF/EXGF site:

Tell them to either change the ads, remove the content, or ban their account. Then check your affiliate agreement and be sure it has something about content usage.

Most affiliates will comply but if they don't then you're probably not losing anything by cutting the cord, its not like they're trying to send you sales anyways.

well it's because of diplomacy, I don't want affiliates all pissed going on a rampage on the boards.

funny the example I gave is the same layout / template a large number of affiliates use on their tubes which is a disturbing trend.

If they aren't sending you traffic, what are you going to ban them from?

If they are sending you traffic, that's a whole different story then...

I can totally understand where your coming from, so I would contact those affiliates and let them know that they are violating the program TOS and please correct it, then if they don't kill the account and if they want to bitch on the board you'll be in the right and likely gain affiliates if they post...

i have seen this often now

they take the free content

and put ads around to other sites...or even worse is they have a link to download the full movie which isnt even to the paysite but instead a paid upgrade to the tube site and they bury the ad to the sponsor way down on the page where no one will bother to click it or see it

fucking bullshit if you ask me, but they will just say adapt or die

so what are you gonna do gleem?

no, you misunderstand, they are affiliates, the particular one I posted a screenshot of uses my embed player too that has my linkcode in it so the video clicks over to my site, but the clicks coming through have such a low rate of anything being clicked on the site it almost seems fake, worst quality I have ever seen with very few sales.

I contacted him a couple weeks ago to at least link the "download this video" link to my sites, and after the runaround he still hasn't fixed it.

But there are plenty that don't bother with using my player, and have one banner on the page for me and then popover ads on the player.

Whatever, this whole thing is frustrating and I didn't want to have to police it like this, but looks like I'm going to have to.

THis guy doesn't fall under what you are describing.

He has no interest in promoting for sales this sponsor he got the embed from. He is only interested in promoting the CP filled site and is just going to jump ship to another sucker.

@Gleem, does he even produce any sales?

fix your fine print on your affiliate program rules, define clearly what is allowed to be done with your promo content. include a little paragraph that using your content in any other way to promote another site in a misleading way will be regarded as a copyright infringement and acted upon accordingly.

industry of scumbags.

I'd email the affiliates and ask them to change it so its not deceptive. Don't ban right away, give them a warning.

I try to be a very understanding person.. but hell even in that situation I would be like "FUCK THAT SHIT!", that link clearly implies that the visitor should follow that link for more of your content. Either send a notice and make a move if they don't respond within 24hrs (extremely lenient and possibly a waste of your time, time=money) or ban them ASAP.

Just disable their embeds in htaccess, if they need your vids they'll have to contact you and to offer some more favorable terms of advertising.

Or maybe go preapproved, i.e. ENABLE in htaccess only those who contacted you, showed their site(s) and what kind of advertising they have - if you're OK with it, let them access to your embeds. Then make a check list and scan them weekly to see if they're still properly promoting your site or not.

Instead of blocking or banning them.... Figure out how you can make a default trailer play on the affiliates traffic, heavily promoting your Websites. Give the surfers direct instructions; big arrow pointing up, enter the url whatever.com then press enter, and brand yourself of course.

Let the affiliate keep the account, if you get a sale, sweet. Otherwise, it's free traffic/branding, probably as long as you never say anything to them.

those sites have the worst most unproductive mostly turkish traffic out there. the name of that game is to wash tons of garbage third world traffic into adult ad world checks.

throwing up a banner or url on the player wont do shit as those guys couldn't drive a sale to save their family's lives.

No it's not, but if there's isn't even a link back it is worthless by definition, no sense in hosting vids that will be used to promote some irrelevant sites.

Or if the advertising is very poor (like a barely visible link borrowed somewhere down the page where none see it), such traffic is next to worthless (you'll get only few clicks not worth the bandwidth and horrible ratio).

It's not like you're loosing anything valuable by dumping an affiliate who's costing you money but is not sending you any sales back (or not enough to justify the bw spent).

But with proper advertising (clearly visible banner right below the videos and a good text description), tube traffic is doing just fine fine.

Yes, OP says the "click to download this video" lead to CP.

In this case I would ban without a warning, because of three reasons.
First, in all likelihood they'll switch it back a week later and I wouldn't want
to have to keep checking up on them. Secondly, one you intentionally
screw me, I don't want to work with you. Why would I want to send checks
to people who essentially stole from me? Lastly, if they are screwing all
of the affiliate programs and supporting sites full of stolen content, I want
do whatever I can to help them go out business ASAP. I would tell them WHY
they are banned, perhaps, and tell them they can re-join if and when they
start acting like professionals - no screwing ANY affiliate programs and
no links to ANY stolen content sites.

If one of them posts on a board you lay out your screenshots and such showing
them to be complete thieves. They have no credibility and you get points for
integrity and supporting the kind of legitimate professional conduct which helps
the whole industry.

it's your content and youre free to do with it what you like. if you feel someone is using your content in a way you disapprove of, no one can question your right to ban.

If there's a way to alter the video feed at your end before you ban him, I'd switch it to something that said 'this is an unauthorized link, sponsor xxx is stealing from affiliate 123' or 'dear surfer... did you know that you're visiting a site that supports piracy and child porn? The FBI is investigating...'
There's nothing like putting a little bit of fear into the pirates or making surfers aware of shady programs!

I'm really starting to think that the whole "every ex-gf site is filled with cp" garbage is just for shock value. I promote a lot of ex-gf sites and I have yet to see anything that made me think "questionable content". If you are so sure a site has cp on it why not report them?

I'm no flash expert, but could you just set it up so all views from that ip redirect to your tour page or some shit? lol
