Will what the UK government propose work?
The UK today say they are going to send out warning letters to people uploading to filesharing accounts and then if they continue to offend restrict their bandwidth of cut them off.
I am not that technically well informed. Will this work or is it not possible to get a tech fix to this? |

I'm pretty sure some tech savvy kids will find ways to get around it, and I'm also pretty sure ISPs are not going to be overly zealous trying to enforce this ruling. But overall that's a good news and a step in the right direction, as it will make the general public in the UK much more cautious about illegal file sharing.
Europe is moving in the right direction, with France passing similar regulations, Sweden outlawing TPB and the Netherlands and Denmark ordering their ISPs to stop passing TPB traffic. EU is obviously not a place to play games with the copyright laws anymore. Now if only the damnable DMCA was amended in favor of copyright holders, life will be good again.

I'm not sure if you have misunderstood?
They can't cut off people based on only uploading to a filesharing account. At least something illegal/infringement must have been taken place. I think placing more responsibility on the hosts instead will have more effect. Any website offering filesharing should be forced to self-regulation, and if they can't regulate (or ignore) infringements, then they are not capable of running a legal website, and should simply be shut down. They should also be forced to log all activity, for eventually further investigation. |

i've said this before,
we are on the way to seeing some anti-piracy legislation. It won't happen today, nor tomorrow, but it's bound to happen. Duke
