Pit Bull owners inside please.

I'm wondering on where to find good information on making my pit more certified... Ya know licenses and shit so he's more trustworthy in communities and won't be so restrictive on him depending on where I'm at.

I pretty much wanting to do whatever I can to have proof that he's a good dog, well behaved, trained, etc to provide to anyone who needs to know that information, such as law enforcement, or city mayors and shit.

I tried searching Google, but I must not be finding any good information, or just not searching the right words.

Thanks in advance.

Slap a muzzle on that bad boy and you shouldn't have problems anywhere, the downside is it attracts more attention and makes the dog *look* mean.

Is your dog all pit or part pit?

The one city I know that is the worst on pit bulls is Denver.

I was worried when I lived for a few months, but since mine didn't have the dominating features of a pit I was able to feel somewhat safer that the pit bull police were going to nab her.

It's tough good luck

Best you can do man is get the dog into obedience school and passed of course. Then you can see about getting it into a certified training school with a letter from the instructor. Though it is only going to help a tiny amount. The stats and notoriousness are just against you.

With the obedience school and training school (socialized would be best). You then would want to ensure you have a leash that is certified to hold that weight of a dog, perhaps a neck chain or choker that forces obedience and is also certified for your dogs size and weight. Lastly you would want to keep your dog in a muzzle anytime it is outside.

http://www.inch.com/~dogs/training.html

Even with all of that, you will be held to any laws, regulations, and whatever a city, county, state, country, or even landlord has in effect against your dog. Oh and you would want to pick up insurance that covers any actions your dog does.

bully dogs are sweethearts. mine doesn't have a mean bone in her body, and is the bitch of many a cat. easily one of the most god natured and affectionate dogs i have ever met. she's actually rolling around on her back trying to not-so-subtly solicit a belly rub as i type this.

the american temperament testing society is something you might want to look in to as well. bullies regularly score higher than golden retrievers, and in fact many other dogs that are considered more ubiquitous as family pets.

i walk my dogs in the neighboorhood on leases all the time, only to have to pick my 50 lbs dog up in my arms when people with little dogs don't keep them on leases outside and they come running barking towards my dog. The only reason i pick him up is one pesky dog got to close and mine grabbed him by the neck. poor little doggy yelped so bad. when my dog freed him, he ran back to his parents and wondered what the fuck happened. not to mention the stupid pit bull that started following my wife and i. yes i said stupid pit bull cuz those dogs are pretty brainless.. my wife paniced because she has heard all the horrible things pit bulls can do. they can be very protective of the owner so when not on a leash they can attack ANYONE at ANYTIME. so yeah there are plenty of retards who don't leash their dogs. I can't wait till the day my dog eats another little puppy for barking at him.

I love pit bulls.
like any dog, they are sweet and loyal when trained properly, and the vast majority will go their whole happy lives without ever being aggressive toward a human.

but still, i prefer to own a dog whose ass i could kick.

juuuuust in case

Ironic huh? A Pit Bull saving a child from being mauled by 2 dogs?

Well I am trying to help but I really do not much like the breed. I do get the whole nature/nurture argument and what both sides have to say. I have researched it to no end. My conclusion which is slightly negative came down to one silly question that stuck in my head. I just like to assist.

Most owners say their dogs are big babies, never hurt a flea, etc.
Ask the owner what its name is and then you get names like Adolf, Killer, Slaughter, Ruthless, etc.
Someone needs to explain that to me.

Our chow is AKC good citizen certified, and while pits are a bit more publicized, chows have much the same reputation...

I put it to people this way, if you have an issue with my dog... you have issues in general.

I respect your opinion and your slight hate towards them, why? Because you actually are educated and know about them, everyone else just sees the bad shit about them and starts up with the torches and angry mobs.

Any bad story about a Pit, look at the owner, I bet 9 times out of 10, they are a gang banger looking black guy with a grill and gold chains around his neck, he had his Pit mainly for fighting.

Now look at Pits of normal family people and see they won't hurt a fly.

I wanted to give Buddy a badass name also, but mostly because how silly does it look yelling "COME HERE FLUFFY!!" and all of the sudden a big muscular Pit Bull comes running towards the guy?

Ten Facts About Pit Bulls Every One Should Know

1. Pit Bulls are commonly used as therapy dogs. Whether they are visiting a senior care facility or helping someone recover from an emotional accident, Pit Bulls are making a mark as outstanding therapy dogs.

2. Pit Bulls are used in Search and Rescue work. One example of well known SAR Pit Bulls is Kris Crawford and her dogs. Kris and her dogs have helped save the lives of many people during their efforts. http://www.ForPitsSake.org

3. Pit Bulls serve as narcotic and bomb sniffing dogs. One Pit Bull, Popsicle (named that because he was found in an old freezer) has the largest recorded single drug find in Texas history. Read more about Popsicle here. Including how he found over 3,000 lbs of cocaine in Hildago, Texas.

4. Pit Bulls are great with kids. They weren't referred to as the "nanny's dog" for nothing that's for sure.

5. Pit Bulls are not human aggressive. The American Pit Bull Terrier as a breed is not human aggressive. In fact, quite the opposite is true of the breed. They are gentle and loving dogs. Like any dog individuals can be unsound and have behavior problems.

6. The Pit Bull was so popular in the early 1900's they were our mascot not only in World War One, but World War Two as well. They were featured on recruiting and propoganda posters during this time period.

7. Sgt. Stubby. A Pit Bull war hero. Stubby was wounded in action twice, he saved his entire platoon by warning them of a poison gas attack and he single handedly captured a German spy.

8. Pete the Pup on the orginal Little Rascals was a Pit Bull.

9. Pit Bulls score an 83.4% passing rate with the American Temperament Test Society. That's better than the popular Border Collie (a breed who scores 79.6%). View the ATTS stats here.

10. They are dogs not killing machines.

They're also the most popular dog in San Francisco.

I get there is a WHOLE LOT of nurture issues going on with pit bulls and their issues. These people bring out the bad in the dogs genetics. The dogs were breed for certain behaviors though. Once again many of the "breeders" are also the not to responsible fucks who make mean dogs and again are breeding them just for such behavior and body types.

I am sure I could find good things the dogs have done for many of the bad things they have done. Hell I did in my research. I also found other issues that made me personally ban them at any of my rental units (they are not the only breed either that is banned). Biggest issue was the breeders. One of our tenets wants to get one. I asked from where before I rejected her. She said this guy two streets over is selling them. I instantly knew what guy it was. The dude has had dogs taken from him by the city. He has been fined for assorted dog issues. This fucker was breeding dogs that were mean on purpose.
Of course the lady at our unit gave me the whole rift about raising them and loving them. I still said no with the only reason given of no large dogs.

See that situation is understandable. My dog is the product of 2 Pit Bulls I've been around since both the mother and father were pups themselves. The mother is my ex girlfriends dog, who we watched go into a baby room, jump up and put her paws on the crib, stare at the baby for a minute, jump down, and lay next to the crib and not leave until the baby woke up. She was making sure the baby was ok, and then stayed by her side until she woke up. Actually the first Pit Bull I've encountered and made me change my whole mind on Pit Bulls myself.

I can be very reasonable. I still remain neutral with a slight amount of aversion to them as a breed. I however do get that situations are unique and I never paint with a wide stroke on most any issue.

Mathematically odds wise and taking into account how judges feel about the breed itself, along with most of my county and the local news stations. There is no way I could allow those with such dogs to live on any property that we own. I would love to take it case by case, I just can not. Only way I could see myself allowing one to be owned by a tenet of ours, would be if the tenet had a disability and it was a trained service dog. Then naturally I could not prevent ownership due to the disability act (laws at Federal level). Which by the way contains your potential loophole on how to make your dog legal for at least a couple years (there are always loopholes in the government).

Like I said though I do not just ban pit bulls either. I have a large variety of dogs on the list and even some smaller dogs like poodles. The poodles are a personal issue for me.

Stafford-shire Terriers are baddass. My buddy had one and the thing was a terror. Always scared the fuck out of me.

He always kept telling me that the UKC http://www.ukcdogs.com thing is for a lot of pit owners . Cool dog

I tried searching Google, but I must not be finding any good information, or just not searching the right words.

Thanks in advance.

Someone needs to explain that to me.
eh a name is just a name. bully dogs are just the flavor du jour for certain demographics that shouldn't have any dog at all. before it was pits it was rottweilers, before that german shepherds and so on.

just for the record my bully is named Isis.

Quote:
Isis was a goddess in Ancient Egyptian religious beliefs, whose worship spread throughout the Greco-Roman world. She was worshiped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patron of nature and magic. She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans, the downtrodden, as well as listening to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers. Isis is the Goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility.
she was a rescue dog from a local shelter and i can't even tell you how happy i am to have been able to give her a second chance. she has thanked me a million times over with her loyalty, love, and general goofball tendencies.

i always tell people that if an intruder broke in to my house their biggest obstacles with her would be being followed around while they stole all my shit having toys dropped at their feet, and receiving a vicious amount of puppy kisses.

Smack I am not saying everyone does, again no wide paint brush.
Just sort of smacks of irony that they are so defensive of their dogs, say how sweet it is, give the whole it is the owner and not the breed talk, then call in killer to show you how sweet she is.

Anybody that forms their opinion with having never been around pitbulls is a total moron that talks out their ass. You know kinda like those people that talk a big expert game here at gfy but are part timers that live in moms basement.

People shouldnt be hypocrits.

Left To right Amos, Kira, Bella.

No they dont eat my cat, infact they sleep together on the same little 4 foot across bed. No there names arent killer, no they wont bite your leg off UNLESS you break into my house (then they will yes), and last... Yes they are extremely nice and good dogs. Both have passed the good samaritan tests and can be used in nursing homes, etc. Also both do dog agility where they jump over jumps, through tunnels, over dog walks, etc. Bella is only 1 yr old! lol.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, get so tired of haters.

ps. Killswitch if you still need any info at all hit my icq, my wife knows all the details about what your looking for.

Here is Kane who we fostered last year, he was so sweet too. Glad we found him a great home. We foster 1 pitbull out of the local rescue organization every year.

Sine you mention the name killer you are directing that at me in a way. I am far from a pit bull hater, I said I am pretty neutral about them with a little on the negative side. I did provide him with a lot of information. I also mentioned I would allow a pit that was a service dog into our rentals, that is despite the fact that I can always find reasons to deny someone legally. I have banned several large dogs and poodles. Some for insurance reasons, and some for other reasons that were valid and not a choice just because of what they are.

Nobody has bothered to even ask if I had been around them, beyond the breeder who lives close to me who has gotten into trouble. Though you can make assumptions. I grew up around several large dogs as my father was into a lot of dogs. Of that we had 2 pits, 1 German shepard, 2 labs, 1 retriever, a couple mutts, and a dobermen (spelling) which was a total of 11 dogs on our farm.

Now if you are directing the comment about living in my mothers basement (long dead), being a part timer who talks out his ass, with a big game, and a hypocrite then you make some serious assumptions once more.

I just happen to be willing to speak my mind and some people do not like it. Things can be assorted shades a grey in my world, though it seems if it is not black and white then they have issues with me.

I have no doubts all the pit owners on here have great dogs. Hell my two breeds I do not like at all are poodles and retrievers. The retriever issue is not really fair but it got established early on in my life and as a kid I was tormented by a poodle my great grandmother owned. Not really a reason to hate a breed and I admit that. It is just breeds I have issues with and do not want around me.

Feel free to rant, it can be good. It can spur conversations.

yeah "killer" I suppose was directed at you, but not the basement thing or ass talking lol. I dont know you so wouldnt assume that. Mostly was just a statement in general from the 10's of people that always jump on anti pitbull threads/topics. Its all over, not just on the boards. You have no idea (well maybe you do) just how much we have to defend our dogs whether at the park, on message boards, or just anywhere for that matter. My favorite is when you have a small pitbull pup and people come running/flocking up to pet it and ask "what kinda dog is that she is sooo cute!!" then your like "a pitbull" and they step way back, talk some shit under their breath, grab johnny and leave. Its just annoying like just stfu people. Anyway im ranting here. :P

Anyway... You seem to be level headed and I respect that. If you have met the breed and still arent a fan then all fair.

Mostly it is insurance reasons and judges are slanted. I must always keep risk and reward in line when it comes to things I do. My homeowners and renters insurance charges much more if there are certain breeds allowed to be possessed. I also know the local news and the judges would have NO PROBLEMS associating me with the tenets dogs and anyone harmed would primarily come after me since I have known assets. Tenets typically will not own much lawsuit wise.

That is why I also explained to Killswitch about picking up insurance. Typically if something does happen you WILL be guilty until you can prove your innocence, unlike how it is supposed to go. Heck often if a pit does anything they will get the dog at very least taken for monitoring, if not to put it to sleep even before your case.

Please don't put a fucking muzzle on your dog just because other people are scared, people are scared of a lot of things (like insects), it's no reason to make your dog look and feel like a maniac (unless he is one).

And as for the leash thing, I remember seeing a girl walk her big golden retriever and it got tore up by a dog half its size because the girl was nearly sobbing about the situation and trying to get away by yanking/dragging her dog and throwing off his balance while the little one was tearing him to pieces. I guess that really has nothing to do with people keeping dogs on leashes but I wish she would've just let him go and he could've easily handled himself.
