Is your pet overly loyal to you?

Everybody appreciates loyalty but what about when it goes too far?

I love my dog (no, not that way you sick fuckers) but seriously....why does he have to stick so close by? I can't go anywhere without him following me unless I stealthily slide my rotund ass by him while he's sleeping. I'm forever almost stepping on the clumsy oaf by day and tripping over him by night..

I must have explained to him at least 300 times that he has his own bed and should not sleep on the floor next to mine. Yet, somehow he manages to find his way there on a regular basis. I get up, he gets stepped on or kicked, then he moves back to his bed. Every fucking night.....Sometimes multiple times a night.....You might think he would eventually learn not to lay there.

In this case, a little less loyalty would be appreciated.

Here's a couple pics.

Does your pet stick too close to you? Any suggestions how to discourage it other than by taking daily showers?

I can't afford pets & vets any more but yes, when I used to have them, they did the same. Be happy they like you.

Dogs are loyal creatures,
And they protect their owners and have cuddly features,
Except for the dogs that go rabid and insane,
They will bite off the face of their master,
They will tear him to pieces chewing faster.

my guy is only 5 months old, had him since 6.5 weeks old...i can't walk around my place without him following me around. at work sometimes he'll follow me from my desk to the bathroom and wait outside the door for me. he's always close by...it'll be a problem when i start leaving him for extended amounts of time...

How did you try to explain it to him? On his language, using the human variation or by ordering him to go to his bed or place? My dogs had learned the hand language fast and could read my face and eyes and did what they had to. They were super intelligent german sheps I got when they were 4-5 weeks old.

Bye for now.

Very good point.

I'm thinking that it has something to do with the amount of time he has spent without me over the years due to traveling and work.

These days he's spoiled with lots of attention from all kinds of people all the time. He will leave all that just so he can follow me and sit outside the bathroom while I take a piss.

Bye for now.
I've sat on the floor and spoken to him in plain English, face to face.

I've directed him with hand and verbal commands.

I've shocked him with stun gun, smashed his paws, and smacked him upside the head with a large rodeo size belt buckle. Oh...and I had his balls cut off too.

Dogs can be amazing companions. My dog is similar...If we leave the house for 30 minutes, upon our return she goes into a frenzy as if we have left her for a week.

btw beautiful labrador.

My dog is the same, anywhere I go he comes with me unless I tell him to stay before he even gets up to come. I like having him follow me, he thinks he's looking after me. He's the same with Angie, follows her too. He gets very confused when we go seperate ways, you can actually see him deciding who to follow... He always comes with me, again unless I tell him to stay. My Lab is slightly bigger than Cayman, so imagine me trying to not fall over him lol.

I'll sometimes spend days with my dog within 10 ft of me the entire time.

She might mean everything to me but I AM everything to her.

It wasn't even close so I am not sure what he is talking about. Haiku is traditionally in one line but American versions place them in three, with usually only 5 syllables in the first and last line, 7 syllables in the second.

Example:
I walk across sand

And find myself blistering

In the hot, hot heat

Your dog is friggin cute man. A great dog I remember him.
And you love it that he loves you like that.

I remember when he was just a pup and we went to visit him in the dog hospital and he had that bukkake hat thing on. He was like your baby!! I saw this first hand.

He's this way becasue you raised him that way.
Pets and kids are usually a reflection of their parents.

The feeling is probably mutual. If he could post on some dog msg board he'd probably be bitching about the same shit.

But the stun gun part, WTF!??!!?

Looks like a good problem to have...

For one thing, don't explain things to a dog. They don't speak English.

BTW, my Chocolate Lab follows me around all day. I'm the center of his world.

Youd be suprised that some dogs do understand language quite well.
But Just like with people, the Chocolate labs arent as smart as the white ones.
English is just one of the many things he understands.

Yeah, but my Chocolate has a bigger dick and can dance better...and he can rap. BTW, dogs can't comprehend language.

dogs are the best, they earned the title 'man's best friend' over hundreds and hundreds of years of undying loyalty and companionship.

i'm sure the rest of the animal kingdom looks at them as complete sellouts, suckups and Uncle Tom's - while they're out in the wild foraging for food, surviving day by day, bearing the cold, the rain, the heat, the snow, predators out to kill them while the dog sleeps peacefully on his master's 500 dollar comforter with a bowl full of food waiting for him in the kitchen.

a dog with a good home has it made - the short life span is heart breaking, for us - they have no clue.

sometimes their dependence can be annoying if you're around them all the time.

Great reply, I love my kitties but my childhood dog is my favorite pet ever. They're loyal like no other. It's not annoying, I think it's heartwarming.

I have a damn cat like this... he is a garfield looking Persian and I swear to god sometimes I thin he is a fucking DOG! He stays in seeing distance of me 24/7. If I get up and move, he is right literally, under my feet. If anyone comes near me, he gets between me and them like he is protecting me.... it drives me out of my mind. YIKES! Save a guy's life and he thinks he has to stay glued to your hip for the rest of his damn life. Navarro is insanely loyal to me to the point, sometimes, I have seriously thought about sailing his ass across the room when he gets under my feet. Lucky for him I love him. lol

My brother has a kitten now, he lives with my parents still and they also now look after my dog coz I moved out of my own country for a while. The kitten and the dog are best friends, they go everywhere. My brother says they both follow him now, when he comes home he finds them both waiting for him at the front door. They hear/see him coming through the huge window in the lounge and run to the door. He loves it tho, they get on so well that they both sit curled up with him as he plays PS3.

Check these pics of them both

and

Thats just two photos out of tons of them. Always hanging out with each other. Dog is 6 and Kitten is 3 months old.

yeah, my dog (a GSP) follows me around all the time too. he's always putting his nose against the top of the bed, looking for an invite, which never comes. get's super excited when we come home. our cat is pretty attention-needy as well.

Cute pets! I like cats more than dogs, but these two are perfect together!

The DAY I got my dog, she was immediately attached to me. I tried to put her in a little cozy doggie bed when I brought her home, but she started crying and the only thing I could do to comfort her was take her into my bed.

4 years later and she still sleeps under the covers with me--and anyone else that may be in there as well!

My dog is doing the same thing right now. I've had him for a week or so and he follows me from room to room. I don't know what I'll do when I have to get another day job!

Yeah, when I got the dog I had a 12 year old cat as well. Cat hated the puppy but he loved the Cat lol. When my cat died the dog was different for a while. My mum has an older cat too, coupled with my older one and my brothers kitten, he is just so used to them and treats them great.
