Anyone know if there's an existing WP theme and plugin to make a the homepage level of a WP install look something like the DRUDGEREPORT.COM or, I'll take second best, aldaily.com?

Depends on how detailed you want it. I could edit an existing theme for 50 bucks and get a very similar looking site, or I could go crazy and build it exactly to order from scratch for $350 --- jackoatwebmaster@gmail ---
