also, anyone set up a reseller account just so they get better deals on their domains?

and if so, what registrar and how much are you paying per domain per year?

I have about 900. All with GoDaddy. I can't remember my price offhand, it's around $7.50 after ICANN fee.

I've had domains with many registrars. GoDaddy is only one that really took care of me.

And yes, I considered setting up a registrar once like you are thinking. I ended up concluding that it wasn't really worth the hassle and I should just stick with what I know instead of messing with another project to save a couple nickels per domain.

I got to check out Moniker. I hear good stuff about them. I pay way too much with Direct Nic. But there service is top shelf. But yeah 7.50 for good services sure would help my bottom line.

I don't like GoDaddy. The fact they, by default, bill you automaticly sets the tone for their entire operation.

Love Direct Nic. Great interface, great security, cheap hosting, ect and extremly reliable. But they are spendy.

Here's their breakdown with $15/name the starting point. If you purchase $150 you get the discount ect.

---

Payment for directNIC Dollars by Credit Card:

Quantities Beginning At: Ending At: Cost:
$1 149 1.00
$150 374 0.90
$375 749 0.83
$750 2999 0.77
$3000 10000 0.72

So for $3000 up front you get em for 0.72 or $10.80/domain

Still kinda high.

Ive got about 150 but I've bought and dropped at least 7 times that. And not try for a day or two but, keeping them a year or more and then dropping them.

I think I am def in the hole on this whole domains game.

But maybe in 20 years will the price be up on our keepers? Should be.

We all have our favorites, each for a different reason.

For a US based registrar GoDaddy by far has the best prices. Im under $7 per domain including ICANN fee. You can reach US based customer service reps 24/7 and with that many domains with them, you will be assigned your own Account Executive.

I have a NameSecure.com account, and I think they are pretty good, at a reasonable price, but I only own a couple of dozen domains. Nowhere near hundreds or thousands - that's crazy stuff!

NameSecure.com is associated with NetworkSolutions.com, but nowhere near as expensive. $7.95 p/name I think - not sure if they offer bulk discounts...

You can't argue with $7.00/name. I guess if all I found wrong with GoDaddy was their default settings that aint too bad. I usually eat my words so lookout go daddy here I come. They are big enough that I would feel pretty secure there. I have had a couple with them and all was fine.

I'd save at least $6 a name or $1000 a year. Not small change and on only 150 domains.

Got to do it Direct Nic, eventually. No hard feelings.

I had over 2,000...now over 800...looking to drop down to 500-600 domains. It is hard enough to have one good website, plus the renewal fees hit you all at once sometimes...and I really just can't affored to keep them all.

Due to the economy a lot of good domains are dropping every day.

I use godaddy mostly, and lately purchased some .jp domains from moniker...also since many domainers use moniker, you need an account so they can transfer the domain.

godaddy's website has way too much going and try to make you to purchase something else. monikers website, makes me feel like a beginner to the internet, I can't figure out how to do things, and when you figure it out...and change something you have no confirmation that it work.

Godaddy is my choice with domains costing me about $7.50 each

That's a feature I love, no need for me to monitor whats coming up for renewal, it just renews and I don't loose a domain due to my laziness.

As Sly said also, their CS is great, very helpful and fast.

http://www.namecheap.com

They are 9.69 for a .com though, a bit high next to GoDaddy. I expected cheaper.

Isn't there a good one around $6.00? Maybe not.

I prefer to manually renew them with godaddy...since you can get them $3 cheaper (if you wait until last minute/or with a coupon), If you have a lot of domains you get a vip rep that will help you out also in case you lose a domain by forgeting to renew...my rep Scott...was able to get my domain back from redemption for me and waived the $60 fee. On a 1,000 domains that would save you 3K, plus I always like to go over my list of domains and perhaps not renew. godaddy reminds you at least 10 times to renew.

Yeah, very true I would def like that too. I just happened to reg two real losers one time. and used them on a lark, then forgot they were there. My bad tho for sure.

So that's a vote for Go Daddy. Right now price is everything. Also looks like Moniker is about $7.50 for a .com.

So who's better? I have a feeling moniker has a better interface.

Sorry I post before reading everything sometimes. Damn good endorsement. Plus 50 cents cheaper (if at $7.00 as one guy said) is 50 cents cheaper or $75/year in my case. Anyhow $7.50 is good.

Godaddy reseller account would probably be the cheapest continually. NameCheap is just a enom.com reseller so going directly to the source would be better there. You can pick up $7.95 accounts here and there without having to make the huge deposit. Resellerclub is cheap once you get to the top tier but the control panel sucks balls.

Myself and the domain brokers i work with use Godaddy.

GoDaddy details :

Domains cost 6.99 + 19 cents icann fee = $7.18 ( let me know if anyone needs the latest links/codes) [email protected]

Free privacy if you order 5 or more domains

Appointed domain manager even if you have only 1 domain.

$100 of free extras per domain.

24-7 Live telephone support .....** This is my main reason for Godaddy** " Have a question at 3am on a Sunday morning No Problem " !!

**Note** You can turn auto renew on or off for your domains ..if you turn it off you still get warning emails letting you know when they are about to expire (so you dont forget ! )

Thanks Jim, last post I read tells me a lot.

Yeah confirmation, interface and stuff needs to be good.
Sounds like it's a compromise with niether being purfect in design. That is also what I meant by GoDaddy, too much going on, but with the endorsements here and the cheap prices (and really mostly you set it and forget it) umm I can certainly live with that. I'm leaning towards GoDaddy.

Thanks guys for your help and MS for a good thread. Pretty big change but one I def have to make.

Here's to your typeins always going up.

GoDaddy FTW. Set up a reseller acct and you will save a buck or two. If you are buying that many domains it would be worth it. It would also be worth having a registrar that was there for you, 24/7/365.

It is for us anyway.

Do you guys seriously build and maintain 1000+domains? Or do you just like sitting on a bunch of domains so someone with a great idea can't build the site

I don't have 1000+ domains anymore, but I once did.. I'm down to about 300ish.

Some domains get used as whitelabels, others were shared with Companies/programs for profit sharing, and others sat waiting for someone to buy them, the rest were websites of some kind. For me, most were whitelabels or shared in some way.

Truly, 1000's of domains is child's play, several people here have 10,000's and up over 100,000's of domains. Many of the half major program owners and up, have 10k+ domains. But I don't think they have all of these online, more like a war chest ready to pull out when they get bored.

Some mainstream guy that I can't recall, is known to have over 1 million. From what I remember, his are all online. He isn't the only one though, but I think he was the first.

It's just another layer of math... if you have 20 domains producing you $5k a month. If you add 20 more, 20 more, 100 more, 1000 more... That $X amount is going to grow even if you screw it all up.

Whatever you do, DON'T go with godaddy. If you decide to, just remember this post when you're yelling and ripping your hair out to save a few bucks.

I would recommend DynaDot,

Haven't been using them for very long but they are my new favourite. Easy to manage, great user interface, free revenue parking which works really well, You can have it automatically park your name when reg'd and start making parking revenue straight away. No need to change your nameservers and set them up on sedo etc...

Pricing is very good.

Current regular pricing is $8.75 per .com

Bulk pricing (after spending $500 in 365 days) is $7.25

Super Bulk Pricing (after spending $5000 in 365 days) is $6.99

Full details here for other extensions etc: http://www.dynadot.com/company/prices.html

They are my new favourite, namecheap and moniker are also very good.

Not anymore. BTW, wouldn't use NC as a primary.

I do.... (spread out over several registrars for seo reasons)

I use:
- Fabulous
- Moniker (talk to Bari)
- Webair (takes a while to get used to their control panel, but decent prices and they're easy to contact)
- Namecheap (not great, but learned to live with their shortcomings )
- Name.com
- Dotster (only got a couple of domains there)
- Godaddy (I don't trust them (because of what happened to insecure.org), but I still use them for noncritical domains because of their prices)

Right. There's no way in the world I've used them and had issues. Do how you know how I form my opinions of other things in life or just of godaddy?

MS if you'd like details, feel free to contact me.

GoDaddy is the best overall.

I don't understand why webmasters compalin about such petty stuff as having to click through two pages of upsales. Besides, they have that new Express Buy feature that takes you directly to the checkout page.

Since you didn't elaborate to the readers of this thread what happened, I will. They published a list of thousands of MySpace logins, MySpace naturally had an issue with this and GoDaddy ultimately suspended their domain.

They then set up NoDaddy.com in retaliation, which is now filled with complaints about GoDaddy from noobs and general idiots who brought problems upon themselves.

It's funny to hear the godaddy reps on the phone read back your [adult] domains, since it is all recorded they usually cut it short. =p
